2001 Maxima - Dim driver headlight and bose system questions

Hi,

I'd like to thank anyone who helps me in advance. Since I bought this car, I've had trouble with the driver side headlight. When I run it in daylight, the driver side is very dim compared to the passenger's. When I brought it to the mechanic they said the ground looked good and that it was likely the DRL module. Well, I took the drl module apart and resoldered almost all the spots. When I tested it, the same problem persisted. Thing is, when I put on either the low beams (night) or high beams, both lights come out at equal strength, and are bright. So as a solution I constantly run my lowbeam lights as you would at night but this is very annoying and would rather find a fix. Should I buy a replacement module? Is this a ground issue after all? Relay?

2nd question:
My bose sound system has been faulty since day 1. The two front speakers don't work, and the sound is very distorted and pretty sure there's no bass. I bought a new headunit and harness as suggested in the WIKI on this forum on replacing a bose system, but was wondering what could be the problem in case the headunit swap doesn't work (which I'm sure it won't, I just wanted one).

Thank you!!!
DILF

Issue #1 is the DRL. You can buy another module but they are expensive (like 300-400 from the dealer, if you can even get one).

Check your solder joints again carefully - use good lighting and a jewelers loupe or magnifying glass. If it's not a bad solder joint, it could be a bad relay on the module - if you check the schematic you should be able to figure out which one is bad and replace that, but start with checking the solder joints in the DRL module again.

This is what bad solder joints look like:

Swap the DRL with the one from the passenger side. If the passenger dims, you know it's the module.

There is an amplifier in the trunk that is bolted on the underside of the parcel shelf on the right side. It is possible that the no front speakers problem could be the amplifier instead of the head unit. It is also possible that you have bad speakers or wiring damage.

There is also a small subwoofer back there. The no bass problem could be a poor solder on a relay in the woofer.
