2000 Maxima 6 cylinder Pics & Questions! Educated Guesses? Help!
Person who sold it to me said it was head gasket.
Oil dipstick shows not creamy
No notice how the oil leaks from more to right side of engine.
I cleaned dipstick for oil and put it back in, notice that level is really high and goes beyond area to examine.
Anyone with some educated Guesses?
I'm a shady tree mechanic. Can turn a wrench like a pro.
Have done head gaskets and replaced transmissions on Honda's
Don't have a repair manual.
Car has 240,000 miles. Still starts and runs.
Was thinking about doing a blue devil head gasket repair. I stand by that product. Have used it on 3 different occasions with great success.
Please tell me what to look at.
Person told me it was just leaking oil.
As you can see by pics it's interesting.
Can this be a head gasket?
Did they put too much oil?
Help
Thanks

No. Not at all. Ignore him.
These cars need to sit and settle for about 10 minutes before you check the oil or you'll get a high reading.
If it was overfilled it can do all sorts of strange things. One of them is **** out oil. The 1st thing I would do is drain the oil and see how much comes out. It should hold about 4 1/2 Qt.
If a head gasket leak were pushing that much oil out you'd probably have running issues. What does the coolant look like? I wouldn't be thinking head gasket yet.
Where is the oil coming from? you should be able to find a leak that size. What's the highest wet spot on the engine? Grab a good flashlight and chase the oil up.
It could also be leaking from the rear main. If most of the oil looks like it's coming from the block/bell housing weep hole you may have a bad RM seal. It's past time for one with that mileage.
Drain the oil into a clean catch pan and see if it's overfilled. You can measure it by poring it into an old oil jug. Get the oil level correct before you do anything else. At this point I would just put the old oil back in it since you may have to take stuff apart again.

Leak?
When you are facing the engine, the oil leak looks to be more to the right somewhere. This would not be the water pump correct? Because that is located to left of engine.
Would a bad water pump gasket leak that much oil though?
Oil in dipstick is not creamy at all, which is why I ruled out head gasket.
I haven't technically got the car off the ground yet to inspect. It's at a lot now.
Just gathering info before I get into it.
A rear main seal is where the transmission meets the engine block on right correct?
I've never worked on a nissan.
Is a rear main seal difficult on these cars?
Still starts and runs
Thanks y"all for the possible answers
Keep chiming in with info.

no. don't use that. find the seal all the oil is leaking from and replace it.
follow the drip. that is a **** ton of oil.
Get a uv dye put it in your oil and check it out with the light. usually it comes as a kit.
should be ez.

No, Forget the water pump and Ignore Maximatech12. He's a bit of a troll.

Yes, between the block and tranny. Front main seal is on the front of the engine behind the main pulley.
I've never worked on a nissan.
That's about to change
Is a rear main seal difficult on these cars?
Yes. It's a real pain in the a$$. I did it on both my Maximas last year.
Still starts and runs

LOL, let me get this straight. Some idiot had a crank seal leaking and his solution is to put 20 qts of oil in it and wonders WHY IT'S LEAKING LIKE A SIEVE (then sells as bad HG)?
He needs put down.
I have seen a HG leak oil outside the engine (really overheated honda), but I would say that's pretty rare and only applicable to certain engines.

Fix a car with a bottle is never a good choice with these cars. Listen to them about that weep hole and rear main. These cars are picky, the part is cheap, replacing it is easy but will sound like a big job, and I can't help but restate that these cars are picky. They dont cage for most brand new non oem factory parts. Much less snake oil. I did see one useful feature specifically about the atp stuff in your picture. Scott Kilmer on you tube has a video where he pours that in a spray bottle and goes over every bushing on a car to not only eliminate squeaking but some polymer enzyme blah blah, melts in to the rubber blah blah, fills the cracks blah blah, and actually rejuvenates them. Seems legit but don't use it for the intended use however.
