Thanks beeline. It has all original parts, I believe my cousin.
He is the only other owner - 53k miles, I have all service records, according to him and the records - original brakes.

Nice. He took care of that car. So many people have let these cars go. You see them trucking along on the highway but you can hear and see that they are not being maintained properly.

All the best.

Thanks guys, I'm going to keep it stock. The challenge is going to be keeping the mileage down, it's way too much fun to only drive 4,000 miles a year. Luckily my 2000 SE isn't anything to look at, but it still drives really well - that will be my daily beater.
I'm not a big fan of the Hankooks, will have to swap them out soon.

Downstate NY, believe it or not. My cousin Rich had one of every generation of Maxima that came out, this was his last one. He bought it in Dec. 2001 at the age of 62, he has always been a car guy so he kept great care of it - had its own garage.
He had to give up driving due to medical reasons, so he gifted the car to me. It sat for about a year...so far it's been fixing a slow tire leak, new battery, a couple of new ignition coils, new air filter, new wiper blades and that's it.
I detailed it over the course of 4 days, when I picked it up I could tell the paint under all the dust was in really good shape.

Thought you guys would get a kick out of this - the key fob on the valet key. I'll find out the story this weekend.

My cousin lied, he must have road the clutch. Friction point at very top, then slipping.
Nissan dealership replaced after too much money, friction point is now normal mid point.
69,999 miles when I went in for the clutch.

NICE!!

you should at least lower it a bit to get rid of the huge fender gap. I also recommend urethane suspension bushings to remove any suspension slop. I kept my car stock for 10 years but with the exception of suspension mods for better handling on the highway.

Car looks great. Mine started rusting on the rear quarters and other people in NYC cannot parallel park for **** so my bumpers are scarred. Moving to NYC has really put some wear and tear on the car.

The best mod you can get for the car is a short shift adapter to make the shifting easier. And polyurethane bushings for the shifter.

Adapter like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/19615267422...eHbqHL-8&gQT=2

I like your ideas, had been considering replacing the suspension bushings. But I'm occasionally getting an EVAP code and developed a whine from the rear - suspect a wheel bearing is on its way out.
I'll probably opt to get new bearings pressed in versus new junk hub assemblies - other stuff will be on hold until then.

curious to know where youre going to get just the bearing.....but new hubs from nissan arent terribly expensive.

For the EVAP code, it can't hurt to try this bottle of fuel additive. It has the highest PEA content which can help with the issue.

I haven't talked to my mechanic yet, but I remember reading here there were junk hub assemblies out there.
Probably will wind up installing the new ones, hopefully quality units and I'll keep the old parts.
