Pesky P0011 - Wont go away!
Hey guys,
02 maxima, almost 170K on the dash. Been dealing with this P0011 trouble code for sometime now and can't figure out the issue. The code reads: "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1) so I had my oil changed the day before and just yesterday I had my variable valve timing solenoid replaced (passenger side). the code went off for a minute but came right back on.
Recently swapped out the camshaft/crank sensors, I can't figure out the issue any suggestions?!

If you replaced the correct one, try removing it and using an air compressor to blow into the oil passages that it uses - they could be gunked up and not letting the solenoid operate correctly.

might sound silly but are you sure you replaced the right solenoid? You said you replaced the one on the passenger side - the problem is that if im not mistaken, both banks have the solenoid on the passenger side. did you replace the one on the left of the engine (closer to radiator aka bank 2) or the one on the right of the engine (closer to firewall aka bank 1)?

TBH not completely sure as I had it professionally installed but I told the mechanic the passenger side so I would assume the right hand side. I may just go ahead and replace the other too. Wasn't too expensive. I'm also gonna put some Seafoam in and see if that clears up any gunk
If you are even remotely handy this is a job you could easily do yourself, the solenoid is like 3 bolts. You might need to pop the intake manifold off to get enough room for the bank 1 solenoid but even then all that involves is turning a socket wrench a couple of times, anybody could do it.

Since theyre both on the passenger side, he probably just replaced the one that is easier to access; in this case, thats the bank 2 solenoid and the wrong one for the code youre still getting. If youre not sure what they did, pop your hood and look. If your bank 2 solenoid is shiny and new, that means they replaced the wrong side. I wouldnt bother with seafoam either, if the passages are clogged then seafoam probably wont unplug them considering how tight they are, your best bet is simply using an air compressor. In any case im putting my money on that the mechanic replaced the wrong bank.
