Anyone have the NAV system in their '02?

It seems to be an expensive option and only CD based, not DVD.

Any comments on it? Worth the money...or not? How well does it work?

Yeah..its been very helpful. I think it looks better than some aftermarket navi's out there. The Nissan one has more features than others.

I have it in my i35... dunno how I lived without it. I've never used mapquest yet. Although I want to run over whatever idiot programmed it requiring you to press ENTER everytime you turn the !@*&$*@ car on.

I definitely reccomend the navigation system - the voice guided directions are incredible - totally accurate. Hitting enter to get out of the "don't use while driving" screen, everytime the car starts is annoying. Can anyone think of or know of a way to bypass that?

who would spend $1,800-$2,000 on something that doesn't even play dvd movies?? some "navi" systems play dvd's only when the vehicle is in park, but the bose system in the maxima and TL-S doesn't.

The NAV system on the 2002 Maxima is listed at $1734, dealer invoice at CarsDirect.Com. We don't really plan to ever watch DVD's in the car but I wonder if there's an input to which a PS2 could be connected. Anyone know?

The annoying "Don't use when driving" is the Nissan Lawyers talking. Can't bypass it. I have it on my TL Nav and you kinda get used to it. As far as playing PS2 or DVD's, check the acura TL website. Alot of guys have hooked up DVD players and PS2's to their Nav systems.

Has anyone noticed obvious differences between 5.0 and 5.1 version Navigation discs?

Tomcat, they send you updated navigatin discs or do you have to buy them? How does this work?

I'd be more interested in hooking up a PS2 to a Nissan Nav system...anyone ever done it?

Nissan is NOT giving no more free update disks, starting this year. You now have to purchase it. I usually just get a copy and burn it.

I tried using my philips burner on the data setting and a sony CDR. It burned fine but when I put the disc in the navi system it recognized it as a music cd and the cd control screen came up.

Ummm, my guess is the Nissan hookup wouldn't be much different than the Acura setup since there is a CPU as the brains and a cable to the LCD screen, so you probably have to get a modulator between the two to tap in a DVD or PS2 unit, that is why I recommended the TL site.

Way to bump an 8 yr old thread.

To answer your question, you can get the different disks for different regions but they're like $120/each. Or try your luck on eBay.

Nope. It's a CD remember? Less memory than DVD. It's broken up into regions. I forget how many disks total but prolly between 8-12 to cover the whole US.

Lemme put it this way, I live in LI, NY and I had to move to OKC for 4 months for training. Half way thru PA it stopped working, good thing I wasn't relying on it. I did the research and called around but the easiest thing to do is buy a Garmin.
