Eventually,gonna work on this as a build(02 ,6 speed)
and was wondering which is the best for a swap.
I understand the 09 and up maxima's are revised and don't have the problems of the 02-03 pre-cat/oil problem and hydraulic lifters?
Still trying to research this.
Honestly,I would just throw in a 3.7,but IDK if that will work with a maxima tranny.

 

No, you can't use a 3.7. Get a newer 2nd gen (2012+) 3.5 with the upgraded oil galley gaskets and swap that in. Doing anything else is asking for extra expense or a ticking time bomb

 

2012 and up sounds about right.

Its all the rage, all the cool kids are doing it. My thread itself isnt too very useful but I collected a bunch of links pertaining to the swap; just about everything you need to know is there. The youtube link appears to be broken sadly, but if you search something along the lines of "maxima hr swap" in youtube you will find what you are looking for. Not really a step-by-step how to, but at least one person recorded most of the major steps and displays what was done, it definitely helped me a lot as I am a more visual learner.

Definitely try to stick to 2012-2014 motors, since they have the upgraded oil gallery gaskets. Otherwise you gotta take the timing cover off and its a whole lot of extra work involved with that BS. Also you can only use FWD motors - doesnt matter what vehicle, as long as its FWD itll fit. Maxima motors are best, though, as they have a better intake manifold.
