Charging
We have 2002 nissan maxima you can start it but once tge lights are turned and you get to driving it just dies and you cant get it to start back unless you jump it off they say both alternators are bad that we have but one is new. And the battery goes dead fast

- Alternator (not) Charging. Start the car and measure the voltage on the battery. It should be 14-14.5 V when the engine is running and the alternator charging properly. If it's less than 14V, the alternator is bad or there are some other problems in the charging circuitry (like, loose connections).
- Parasitic Drain. To find what drains your battery remove the ignition key and disconnect the negative battery terminal. The battery needs to hold at least some charge (say, 10-12.5 V); then, follow this procedure to find the culprit: https://shoptoolreviews.com/automoti...y-drain/34587/ . Be aware that measuring this way (with multi-meter in series) you may damage the MM should the current be too large. A safer alternative is to insert a resistor in series, and then measure the voltage drop across the resistor. Hope this makes sense (if not, you may need somebody to help).
