Power Steering Pump, fitting or rack leak
Power Steering Pump, fitting or rack leak
I have this car: (https://maxima.org/forums/5th-genera...n-t-start.html)

I got under it a couple days ago and noticed I have a slow power steering fluid leak that is oiling up the exhaust manifold, o2 sensor and other parts nearby. I can't see well enough from underneath to say for sure, but by the sound the ps pump makes (that bad whining sound) I believe it may need replacement or just a ps oil change.
My concern is that this car sat in brakash flood waters in 2012 that was just enough to barely cover the ps pump pulley (IE: water went up above inside cabin cup holders and stopped at -for those who know where this is- the cruise control computer just under the radio area) and sat that way for an easy 24 to 36 hours before receding. Anyways, the ps fluid is unusually black for a car with 85k (at least to me) so I suspect the brakash flood waters seeped inside the ps fluid system somehow.
I am going to try slurping (with a turkey baster - haha) the ps reservoir as far down as I can go with it, turn on car, turn steering wheel a few times, and repeat that process like 3 or 4 times and see if the Valvoline PS Fluid with Stop Leak can help me here (because the leak really is a "seeper"; not fast at all) and just see if this halts the leak and quiets the ps pump down again.
Either way that goes, I was hoping some may chime in and let me know if or where any common power steering leaks have occurred on the passenger side and WHAT sort of labor hours would I be looking at for replacing the PS pump if indeed it is SHOT? and any other advice ya'll may have?
Again, this car is fantastic and worth keeping on with.

There are many, many, MANY, MANY threads on the subject!
Obviously, you have not bothered to search.
Just try searching for "power steering pump replacement" (and be aware you can enter the keywords in any order, Google does not care.)
I just did this search and got 25 results.
Here is one of them: https://maxima.org/forums/5th-genera...hose-02-a.html .

Yeah, we're getting into our late 30s and mid 40s by this point.
"Get off my lawn!" is coming soon.
I actually sold my '00 to a coworker a few months ago, but we are trying to locate his recent power steering leak tomorrow morning. Losing a full reservoir in about 2-3 days. It actually briefly caught fire 3 days ago. Melted whatever sensor connector is right there by the pressure line. Didn't melt the wire insulation, but definitely did a number on the plastic shield. And the plug/connector... that thing is basically fused together at this point. Missed the main wiring harness by mere inches.
I'll see if I can create a separate post with pics of the install since none of the old posts have working pictures. Will try to host them on imgur and directly on site for redundancy.
