2002 3.5 SE Ignition coils??

I have the 2002 3.5 maxima, and I am having some confusion on ignition coils, more specifically if there is a difference between the front and back ignition coils? I noticed on rockauto.com they have the Nissan brand coils and there is an option for front and rear, but none of the other brands are like that. I want to get the Hitachi coils. I looked at oreilly and advance auto website and it seems like they are also the same, it is just one part. But maybe I am missing something. Anyone know what I mean? And can you link me to the correct coils so I don’t end up with the wrong ones.

Ok, cool. Any idea why the Nissan brand has front and rear? https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...tion+coil,7060

If you’re set on getting OEM coils, then I would suggest buying them from a reputable Nissan dealer. Nissanpartsdeal has them for almost the same price as RockAuto is offering. Part number 22448-8J11C.

If you do go the RockAuto route, make sure to inspect them as soon as possible. The Hitachi coils I received for my 98 had the part numbers/name scraped off.

The electrical properties of the Front and Rear coils are identical, but they are mechanically different. They differ in how the connector is attached ("in line" vs "perpendicular").

Another piece of misinformation.
The coils from the above dealer are $102.50 each. RockAuto sells the Hitachi coils for $33.79 each. That's a factor of 3, and definitely not "almost the same price".

Nope, they're the same. Part number

maxiiiboy might be thinking of the VQ30 coils, which are different. VQ35 are all the same.

The month your car was manufactured will be important as the part numbers may be different, but they are still all the same part number for your engine. You will not need two different part numbers. If you don't go the ebay route (I would), the Hitachi coils are the ones I would go with, Hitachi is an OEM provider for Nissan. Study the links I posted and determine when your vehicle was made, the manufacture date windows are attached to each part number. Use nissanpartsdeal.com for parts lookup, it is an invaluable resource, don't rely on 3rd party or aftermarket vendors to get it right. Start with nissanpartsdeal, get your part number, then go from there if you're trying to search out a deal. ebay is awesome.

OP was asking about the Nissan brand coils being offered by RockAuto for $94.79, I am comparing those to the ones being sold by Nissanpartsdeal at $105.98.

some of the eBay sellers are actually selling coils that come in Nissan/Infiniti/Datsun boxes. I picked up a set of six and the brand on the coil is Hanshin with 3 different part numbers AIC-31028, 22448-8J115, and CP20AS. I think I paid around $20 each, only time will tell how long they will last.

3.5 are the same, I have a pile I pick through. They even fit the 4.0.

3.0 are different front vs rear.

How are the aftermarket coils different from the OEM Hitachi coils for the 2001 VQ30DE?

I believe the two sets I ordered have a higher resistance on the inputs than the stock coils. I forget the code they throw when installed. It's been a few years since I tried them.
