Hi I have a 3 speed auto (with overdrive) Nissan Maxima 2003 ST-R 3.0 V6 (A33). (Australia)
I need to replace the Automatic worn out gearbox, but I am not sure exactly what type of auto Gearbox will fit my engine, Can anyone help with this my Vin number is JN1CCUA33A0110046 ....ENGINE VQ30(DE) 2988 ....TRAN AXLE RE404B FN37, So I locally found a 4speed auto gearbox for sale and wonder if its possible to use this as a direct replacement, Also, if it is possible, what else might I need to do to get it on the road ....see picture of the 4speed for sale ...
This is the tag the breakers have on the 4 speed. 4 speed

Reason: typo
VQ30DE trans issue
Ok, let have one last go at explaining :
I need to replace the worn out tranmission, but I am not sure exactly what other types of transmission will fit an VQ30DE, TRAN AXLE = RE404B FN37, Locally I found a 4speed auto gearbox that came from a VQ35DE, its possible to use this as a direct replacement.
If this is possible, what else might I need to do to get it up and running ... ie re-wire Valve bodies.
You probably arent getting any responses, because your question may not make any sense to the majorly US userbase. At least here in the states all 2002+ Maximas came with a 3.5L with the choice of 6spd Manual or 4 speed Automatic. There is only one automatic transmission type available in the US for 2002-2003 Maximas and would easily interchange
I believe a 3 speed with overdrive is pretty much the same as a 4 speed, just different terminology being used. I don't think there were any other automatic transmission options on the Maxima from 95 through 03.

Yes this is correct, the 4th gear on the 4th and 5th generation (1995-2003) is overdrive. His question would relate to our north american 6th gen automatics being used in a 1995-2001 model as he has the VQ30. I'd assume that if by chance everything were to bolt up without any issues, that he'd have some ecu compatibility problems.
Quick research seems that using an automatic from the VQ35 would be more problematic that the time and energy is worth.
