Rad Fans only run on high

Hi Folks,

I recently bought a 2003 GLX in 10/10 condition inside and 9.0 outside. I had the rear windows tinted and the guy said he hadn’t seen a 2003 this nice since 2003. Only 156,000kms on it and I want to keep it until 240-250,000 at least. No dents just a few small cosmetic scratches. Love the car but it has an issue. I noticed the rad fan sounded loud when it was on. It comes on only when the engine gets warm but it goes right to the high fan setting. The rad fan assembly only had the passenger side fan working so I ordered a new one and installed it. Now I have two fans that run on high only and it’s even noisier than before. If I turn the car off the fan shuts off. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I did search the issue before posting. Thank you in advance for any help 🍻

I tried an aftermarket coolant temp sensor and then a genuine Nissan part. I'm wondering if it could be a water pump? It's not overheating but something is telling the ecu it is.

the car overheated on previous owner and he replaced radiator and thermostat, 15,000kms ago. I replaced the ECTS. There was a note that the fans were running on high all the time at that point. That is the only reference to this phenomenon. I bought the car 10,000 kms later so I assume he just drove it like this.

thank you helping with this guys. It’s a puzzle.

Can you verify that the fan assembly is actual Nissan? Some aftermarket fan assemblies only have one speed - high..

Also get an OBD code reader that has live data capability. Check the engine coolant temperature to see what the ECU thinks it is. With the a/c off, the ECU will turn the cooling fans on at approx. 203º F / 95ºC and run at low speed. When the engine coolant temperature reaches 220º F / 104º C, the fans run at high speed.

it’s a Four Seasons brand. I heard it was good quality. Coolant temp is 85 and fans run on high.

I don't know anything about the Four Season brand. Does the plug on the fan motor have 2 wires in it or 4 wires. 2 speed fans need 4 wires.
