Those GS400's are fast!

I was driving back home yesterday from a relatives place when i saw this GS400(?, had those gold emblems on the back) swerve left and right overtaking everyone on the highway. In fact he was coming in so fast it was like one second i only see a faint yellow light in my rearview mirror and the next second he was already behind me!

Given my natural instinct of the need for speed i toyed around with him. The moment he moved from my behind to the next lane i floored it. (Man the Max sounds good!).

I guess he was surprised by my actions. I kept it up to 75mph (on a 65mph stip of highway) just to be on the safe side. I was keeping up though.

Funny thing is after that small charade he slowed down and stayed roughly 2-3 cars behind me for the next 5 or so miles until he exited.

They're quick i tell ya.

Yeah they are, my friend has one of those and he did tons of mods on it. His car appears on a lot of auto shows in LA area; his car has license plate of "Aristo" if you happen to spot him. He's got a SC under the hood which puts out around 550HP total working with the already powerful V8 engine

I don't think a SC'ed max (pre-2k2) would take out a SC'ed GS4... possible, but unlikely.

Man it must be nice to put the smack down on a brand new gs430 in your car. Have you run any 430, Q45, 540 etc ?

Well he didn't actually smoke me. From what i heard the 2k2's could run evenly (if not faster) with this behemoth.

I was just rather surprised as it was the first time i actually ran with one of them.

GS300's aren't shiet, but the 400's be careful with the right driver, they can be pretty fast.

All you have to do with the GS is hit the gas and point.

GS400 are pretty damn fast for their size, we raced from a dead stop and even with my 60shot he was gone by 70mph, max just couldnt keep up, but thats cuz i have an auto.

they have tons of torque....so they have a lot of power.

they do around 5.7 0-60....so a 2k2 6sp will be a good run...

I am not gonna mess with them...i don't stand a chance, i am 2 sec behind in 0-60

A 6 speed Max will take a GS400 off the line. I drive a lightly modded GS400 frequently and they have no lowend torque.

Wasn't he talking about a S/C Max vs. a stock GS?

Did you ever watch DMB's videos racing against the GS400? He was dead even with him from like 70-110 MPH. DMB's 6spd was stock then too. The GS400 he raced has run a best of 14.4 at the 1/4 mile and Steve did a 14.3 his first time out "stock". So a 6spd max and GS400 are about dead even but a slite edge would go to a properly driven 6spd max .

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. I HAVE a GS430 and drove a new 6-speed max...and the max is NO MATCH for the GS over 100mph...the GS just pulls like MAD over 100....

in the 1/4 mile you can't compare that GS's time to the max's time becuase they were achieved on different days....with different conditions...GS's trap a good bit higher than the 6-speed maxima does...usually around 99-100 mph...and they have been known to run a high 13 with a proper launch..

as for the S/Ced max....a S/Ced AUTO 4th gen or 5th gen would have a REALLY hard time with a STOCK GS...especially from a roll unless the max is running a smaller pully...

I have beaten MANY cars from a roll with the GS INCLUDING an LS-1 WS6 Trans Am

Explain the videos DMB posted then? I think it's safe to say that both cars are pretty damn close. Also just becuase a GS430 has run a best of a high 13's does not mean a max won't, only 3 6spd max's have gone to the track so far. I thought a GS400-430 typicaly run 14.3-14.5? Thats about that same as a max.

I've had run-in's with just about every four door you can name. I've raced '97 Q45's and smoke 'em everytime and BAD. However, the early ones with the funky badge are a different story. I raced one from a 60mph roll and had my *** handed to me.

Also got my *** handed to me by a late model 740il. Some of these bigass luxocars are deceptively quick. I've heard rumors of a twin-turbo Q45 programmed by JWT running low 12's on street tires. I think they it's nicknamed BADQ or something? It's funny how I get surprised by big luxury family sedans but have honda ricers for snacks.

that was from 70-110....I gaurantee if they had taken it past 110..the GS would have walked a lot more...lots of factors could have played roles in that race....if you look at the video closely...you can CLEARY see the GS pull the max....and that's from BEHIND....yea...Steve claims the GS didn't pull him much....but from the video it looks like it did.

I was not talking about down the 1/4 mile....I was talking about from a roll and then taking it significantly past 100mph...

Classic! But you just posted!

Briguy, you may very well be right about the top end of the GS over a max(100+) because weight places very little role there, mostly Drag CD, gearing and HP play. But in the video with Steve he was not pushing his car all the way to redline(I think he said that). Whats the top speed of a GS430? A max may actually end up passing it in the end.

keep in mind you can't take stats from a GS430 and a GS400 .. the 400 is faster and has e shift which the GS Steve was racing was using..

but i can't tell you anymore..

I don't post here anymore

I knew about the E-shift on the 400's but I remember reading a disscusion over at clublexus.com saying that both car's are just as quick as each other? Mag times do seem to favor the GS400 though.

GS VS MAX

It must bug the **** out of the Lexus crowd that there is even a discussion about the GS and the MAX, and how close the two are (2K2) and (GS430). Price tags: GS430 50K and MAX 29K......:

Governed @ 155mph. With an HKS SLD, the topend is probably closer to 165mph.
