Would You Buy Another Nissan As Your Next Car?

Just curious about Nissan owners’ satisfaction level these days. Put it another way; if something happened to your Maxima, would you buy another Nissan or would you rather buy something else?

Unable to answer the question/vote because I have had a 2001 Maxima all this time. It has held up very well and I do take good car of it. However, the 2001 car does not speak to the build quality of a car made in the past 5 years. One thing for sure, the newer cars have far too much electronics and gadgetry.

My next vehicle will be a truck in about 3-5 years. Right now, Toyota Tundra is the front runner.

I would BUILD another Maxima if I needed to. I have a 2002 with a 2019 engine. 4Th gens are having parts discontinued because they are nearing 25 years old. The 5th Gens are oil burners unless you get a 2017+ engine. Thankfully the crappy CVT transmissions on the later model Maxima causes an abundance of available low mileage engines. The only Nissan I would buy as-is would be an Infiniti G37 with a manual transmission.

I own a 2000 Maxima SE that now has 308K miles. It is in such good shape, that I just had the whole car painted due to the clear coat peeling badly on the hood and the rest of the clear coat was super thin. Now, I have also bought a new 2004 Nissan Quest, a 2006 Nissan Titan and neither of these vehicles are currently in my fleet. Today, I have the Maxima, 2017 Honda Pilot, 2017 Mazda6, 2014 MDX, 2020 Honda Accord, and finally, a 1987 GMC S15. I have two kids who drive a couple of these so don't judge. The quality differences between the 2000 Nissan Maxima and the 04 Quest and 06 Titan was not only obvious to me, but my wife who drove the Quest yet also rode with me in the Maxima frequently. Hands down, the Maxima is/was a much better built vehicle.

Also, I live in Nashville where Nissan is headquartered so I have interfaced with several of their employees and worked with Corporate on a professional level. I cannot give details but I can say, it is doubtful I buy a new Nissan based on my experiences of ownership of their products paired with what I know about the organization. That's just my opinion and no slight against others who may hold a different one.

I'd build another 5th gen. The 2nd gen swap was fun. Learned a lot. Fun car.

Looks amazing. Care to share what you dropped on that paint job? Just paint or was there any panel beating involved? I had plans to do mine on my own, but I might be looking for a shop to take care of it for me. I just don't have the time. I could schedule for it, but I always get into something else that requires my attention. I have a few dings that would need filler and a couple PDR spots but it's otherwise straight, so I'd be looking at mostly a paint-only job, no real bodywork. And actually, I bought a complete, undamaged front clip for it, including brand new factory bumper cover, and the 3 dings are on the front end. So realistically, I could just swap the front end and send it to the shop for paint only......

My father bought a 96 in 99. I got my driver's license with it. I liked it enough so I bought my 98 in 04. I bought my 99 in 18, mostly because I have accumulated so many parts and knowledge. I also owned 97, 99, and 00 parts cars. I've also had 2 B13 Sentras and a P11 G20. When I was looking at trucks it was between Tacoma and Frontier. I've had my Frontier since 12. My girlfriend had an 03 Altima 3.5 and now an Infiniti JX35.

Plus many family members have had Nissans. I do not think any of these vehicles are abnormally special or the pinnacle of anything, I'm just so familiar with them.

Toyota and Honda are 2 other brands I would seriously consider. Dare I say they make more reliable cars.

I would go with an Infiniti (G35,G37 or 03-04 M45) next which is pretty much a Nissan. I would like to have a more comfortable automatic car. I don't plan on ever getting rid of my Maxima though, 02 6 speed with 7th gen swap in the works.

Well, I did buy another Nissan back in 2018, and I love it just as much as I love my maxima. I've had my maxima since 2004, and I'll be keeping this Titan just as long. It's now impossible to find a new truck without auto start/stop, cylinder deactivation, auto-braking nannies, radar cruise control, etc. For me, the 2018 Titan is the perfect blend of modern comfort and old school simplicity and it's been a great road trip and towing companion for 70,000 miles.

As far as a maxima replacement goes....no there's no modern nissan that fits the bill. Manual transmissions are few and far between these days.

I have been considering a replacement for my 2002 but with the chip shortage and the sky high prices I think I will just hold on to this car for as long as I can. After seeing some of these pictures I realize that I would get buyers remorse as soon as I saw a 5th Gen at the gas station or on the road.

Thank You! I don't mind at all. $1,744 after taxes at Maaco for their Preferred Paint service (2-stage). They were running a Black Friday 50% off sale so I bit. My Max was all straight with no rust yet 30-40% of the clear coat on the hood had peeled off and the rest of the clear on the vehicle was super thin. It's not a $4000 - $5000 paint job and I can see a few flaws here and there but for the money and given my Max is now 24 years old, I'm pleased.

While I've owned 4 Nissan vehicles, 97 SE Maxima, 03 SE Maxima, 10 SV Maxima and a 10 Murano I'm pretty much on my last Nissan. My 10 Maxima has 185k miles and I hope to drive it until I hit 300k or more I really don't like the look of the new cars and they're just too cramped in the drivers compartment for my tastes. I want something with a lot more hp and AWD, like the Kia Stinger.

i heard the chip shortage is over or close to being over, im not entirely positive so don't quote me but i got the impression somewhere that it's improving or close to being better, i also heard used car pricing is projected to finally come back down because of the "chip shortage" no longer being an issue. I am also in the market for a car eventually...so i have been more interested in those topics.

good price yea, and if you kept the same color i guess that is a steal, I am just being honest, Maaco paints is the cheapest of the cheapest paint job you can get. No offense to corruptone at all! dont take it that way i am actually jealous of the condition of your maxima! nice stuff, But my step dad has worked in autobody for 30+ years including working at Maaco for ashort stint when he was younger, and it is not quality at all( no need to detail the behind the scene things he learned about them working there). I actually got a paint job from them once when I was 16 (fixed up a car that needed body work), me and my step dad prepped (sanded, primed etc) the entire car our selfs (because it wouldn't be done properly or to a professional standard at Maaco) and the paint job they provided still had issues even after we did half their work. i hate to dis any company.... and i guess for most people they don't really care..... but just facts... Maaco is cheap and their prices reflect that. 4-6k or even higher is more realistic for a professional paint job (area dependent)

but what about newer cars and newer nissans? =) i would love to keep my 5th gen going, but as others have said... the parts are drying up.....on these 20 plus year old cars.

dang nice man! i didn't know you picked that beast up, if i was in the market for trucks I would lock in on that year too nice....

I am really torn what to do for my next car... as others have mentioned... all these new cars have too much electronics (for repairs and simplicity of repairs its beyond most driveway hobby mechanics).... and then yea the quality of the crap seems soo bad........

No offense at all taken and Thank You! You're not wrong overall regarding Maaco and it is hit and miss with a lot of variables involved. I had to weight the cost/benefit of doing this given that my Max is now 24 yrs old, has 308K miles and while I'm currently not aware of a single issue, anywhere, I could experience a catastrophic failure at any time. The hood looked horrible with 30-40% of the clear coat gone so I only agreed to have Maaco do this due to their price point compared to real and perceived value of my Maxima. It is not a show car and instead, a vehicle that I still enjoy driving the most out of all my vehicles. They gave me a 5-year warranty and maybe I will need to use that or maybe not but at least I have 5 years of assurance and I cannot say my Max will even be on the road that long.

thats a great point too, on an older car, keeping the same color, it does make a lot of sense. also yea my maxima is at 291700 miles , and yea it would take one tiny fender bender to total our cars with nice paint or not.

good stuff ! i am def jealous of your ride. and a 5 year warranty is impressive from them.

Am close to 300k on my’11, and drool every time I see an 18 or newer…. Love the body, but hate the Tran.

hope to get 500k at least on the ‘11

accord, camry then maxima ( in that order I would make my next purchase), since I drive over 100 miles daily for work…

I ended up with a 2004 G35 6 speed sedan, been pretty reliable, helps I'm the second owner.

Wouldn't consider a 2007 or later Maxima because of the CVT. Nissan's insistence on using them will keep me from getting another except maybe a 400Z but want to see how they hold up. Plus all the chrome on the newer ones, yuck.
