Replace rear shocks

I'm in the process of replacing the rear struts on my 2000 SE. Got the old ones off fine, but having issues with the new ones. With the top of the strut in the holes, the bottom does not line up with the holes at the bottom. They are about 20 degrees misaligned. Am I missing something? Tried both ways, didn't matter. I see no obvious way to rotate the bottom of the shock relative to the top.

New shocks are from Rockauto, PRT 712161. Not sure if it matters, but my car is an early build, Nov 99.

Thanks in advance!!

Keith

you are going to have to rotate the bottom portion of the strut. you need some leverage to do it. a long screwdriver or long extension through the struts' bottom mounting bolt hole.

Thanks for the quick reply. So, best to mount it with the top bolts, then simply apply force to rotate the bottom to align?
