Started and drove last night with no issues. Tried starting it this morning, all it did was crank with no start.

check for engine codes first to see if anything pops up.

I've had my 02 for years and luckily I've only had one no start issue. I actually broke down instead of making it home like you did. it ended up being the MAF. I figured out it was the MAF because I unhooked it and it started right up but wouldn't rev past 4,000 I believe.

I also had cam position sensor issues at one point. they didn't even go bad, oil got to the connectors. when the O-ring around the cam gear sensors get hard over the years oil start to seep past them and get to the connectors. it would cause my engine shut off and on erratically while driving.

ahhh that makes sense w my symptoms when I had CPS issues and no codes what so ever, random shut offs that eventually got more persistant.

the worst was literally on a 4 lane highway and the car just shut off completely no warning around 45mph. thank god i could coast to a stop and pull in a parking lot (no power brakes, no power steering etc) the one sign was a slight flicker on the factory HU a sec before but nothing else.
