Does this part need replacing?
Does this part need replacing?
It seems the dealership said I need a new gas lid door. The door doesn't open or close, you have to force it. It's not the spring. Maybe the door was bent, unsure.
They gave me some parts and with a 2002 it's questionable if parts can even be found.
All the parts I can buy, except maybe this one 78120-5Y700, Base-Filler Lid. It seems it's the black piece of plastic, sort of like a frame inside the fuel cavity, see here https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/part...tra2=&filter=()
Couple of questions
1. I haven't found a source yet, ideas on this one? So far my usual sources don't have this part.
2. Does it actually need to be replaced??
I know sometimes when a part needs to be replaced in a car, you end up needing to replace an entire assembly of parts at times, for example, like a headlight bulb!
I'd appreciate some input.
Thanks in advance.

does anything about yours appear damaged, bent, or broken? if yes, replace it.
check junkyards. at this point new parts are quickly becoming obsolete. if your gas door lid doesnt freely open its either tweaked or the hinge is binding, especially if the spring is intact and operating as designed. may just require some lube.

I don't know if it's damaged or not. I'm waiting to speak w/the dealership to see if its a part issue, or assembly of parts as I mentioned, I don't know. Visually it looked fine, but I don't look at it in any detail.
The door won't close, unless you force it, same for opening, need a credit card to leverage it open. Not even pushing on the top left corner opens the door. The release mechanism works just fine, clicks away when activated.
I too thought it was lube only, like a car door, mechanic said otherwise...Makes me wonder.....
