Fuel Injector Cleaners

Does anyone out there use a Fuel Injector cleaner on a 2001 Max SE? The user manual says not to, is there a good reason why?

Thx

I have yet to use any in my Max (only 21000 miles), but I never had any trouble with the Valvoline stuff I used in my previous car. I guess as long as you use them occasionally they could be useful. I've heard that the Chevron Techron is the way to go though...

I've wondered about this ever since I read the manual, too. Why the prohibition against cleaners? I used the occasional bottle of Tektron in my '91SE and never had a bit of trouble.

I believe Nissan having had a problem with injectors there whole life they don't want to risk anything but gas going through there injectors now.

that was one of my first questions when i joined the board a year ago. at the time, everyone swore up and down to stop using the stuff cuz it'll do more harm than good. don't know how valid that was, but i haven't used it since.

fuel additives are all for your mental health

Ahhhh...TL-3 worked well on my 1989 CIvic w/ 120k miles, but then again it was OLD and I used regular gas.

Honestly, just keep using good quality 91-94 octane fuel and you should be fine. I read a test in HOT ROD Magazine where they took a Chevy 350 and ran different combos of 87 octane, 87 octane with 104 Octane Boost, 93 octane, and 93 octane w/ 104 Octane Boost.

The dyno showed the best combo was REGULAR with 104 Octane Boost. Second was super unleaded. Overall...just stick with the super gasoline and your Max should perform tip-top.

My dealer (Braindamaged Monkeys Nissan) suggested that I add a fuel-additive/injector systemcleaner/drygas when I took Max in, gagging and stalling the whole way. They couldn't possitively diagnose the problem (Service Manager present), but suggested bad gas. The kicker was them claiming if they cleaned the fuel tank and that wasn't the problem I would be charged for the services.

I laugh at them and sputtered my way across the street for an additive (which solved Max's problem, but not mine).

Revenge is a B@#*@ my friends and this dealer will be getting his serving !!!!

I don't get it...you say that they suggested an additive and the additive worked. What's the problem?

Car was not shifting at throttle, just helld 4000rpm, and was dying at the occasional light. Their response (Service Manager with a mechanic)"We don't know what it is. It could be bad gas, but if we drain the tank and that is the problem(or isn't can't remember, shock)
we will have to charge you. Your best bet is to get some DryGas or fuel additive and a fresh tank of gas. If that doesn't do it bring it back."

I laughed at them went to my car (still laughing) and drove off for fuel additive. They will get theirs in the end.
