MAX vs BOXSTER???

How badly will a 1999 Boxter beat me from a stop or a roll? I want to run him from 60mph (sweet spot for me). I don't think I will beat him but I want to know how badly he will beat me, I don't think by a huge amount. They are 14.9 1/4 mile and 6sec to 60. I have driven a Boxster and know if not driven to redline every gear the power is not there.

Regardless of the outcome, I would much rather have the Boxster when I drove into my garage at night.

Tough call. Agree'd, the car has to be on top of the tach to move... I think you might be with him for a 1/4, but I am thinking the car will walk away soon after.

Then again, you could dust him. hard to say. I say do it and find out. Dont forget to report the results

Give me a few days and I'll give you the outcome, I am too curious to not run this guy.

I would take a 2k2 max 6spd over a standard boxter in a second! Go S or go home or better yet go 911. Good luck driving a boxter in winter! Useless for family vacations. For a "sports car" they are slow! A least the ones I've driven and been in. They handle well! The exhaust has a nice sound too! Not worth the money overall though. Getting beat at the lights or on the highway by a maxima family sedan let alone a long list of other cars sucks! Bottomline Boxter is a poser Porsche! You can pick up used ones for cheaper than a new 2k2 Maxima might be good for your girlfriend/wife or second car (I wouldn't personally) unless I go S.

We spanked a couple of boxters in a gti vr6 twice (The look on the guy's face was priceless) at the lights and another guy in a highway run.

Well the point being the Boxster is very cheap in materials inside and impractible. On the other hand handles extremely well and stops very well. Ofcourse is a Porsche.

To answer your question? If I didn't haul clients all day I would go Boxster!!!

Yup the brakes are excellent too! Ya taking clients out, family, girlfriends, your buddies won't happen. It is a second car for sure! Don't get me wrong I love Porsches but you get what you pay for when it comes to Porsche.

Out of curiousity, where have you seen used Boxters for less than a new 2K2 Maxima? I keep thinking it would be a fun 2nd car, but have yet to see any reasonably priced ones unless it had 80K miles on the clock. I miss my Supra TT...

the design center manager here where I work has a 2k boxster... we were supposed to race one of these days, but hasn't happened yet. I'll ask again he'll most likely crush me, but it should be fun

Your auto or 5spd?
Is the boxter modded or an "S" version?

Jeff? Really? You live in Seattle and you really want to be driving a Microsoft Miata every day...there are like 20 of them on 85th in a single city block at any one time. Its a nice car, but more common than a Honda Accord on the East Side. I say go with the 3.6 Turbo...I only see one or two of those every day.

60 is not a sweet spot for any 5th gen, though.

Try 80 - muuuuch better.

It is a GREAT spot for my auto Max(top of second). 80 mph is a horrible spot for my Max, the bottom of third.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there's now way a Boxter can even come CLOSE TO a Supra TT..... Man, i've wanted one of those for YEARS... If i got one i'd never give it up, (i'm sure you didn't choose to either, so no flames)

uhhhhh....no

Auto: redline of 2nd is 81....max hp is at 6400rpm which is like redline so it will be THE sweet spot. 60mph in 2nd is like around 5k(not as much power as you would get at redline)

Well lets think about this here.

If I take your advice, The car would shift immediately into third and be at the bottom of third. Not much for acceleration there.

If I start at 60mph with say 5k on the tach, I have another 1500rpm of strong acceleration.

See what I'm saying?

I'd say you are correct.

On the 5spds, 2nd tops out at 66 or so and 3rd at high 90s.

okay, don't get all angry at me.....but I was always under the impression that Boxters were slow......they seemed quite slow to me when they first came out (1997 I think). So it may be a good fight, and there IS a chance that you may still win.....just give it a try, it's not really too embarassing to lose to a car like that, but to win it, WHOA MAN!!

the 1997 Boxster had 201 hp. In 2000?? the hp was raised to 220. A 2k2 6 speed should be able to take the new Boxster. Just dont try to race one in the turns

Me and my homie have the same issue. And you know what I tell him everyday?, that I will smoke his as* the day he gets his boxster. THey rate the boxster somewhere around 190-200hp but really only put out 150 tops. Dyno proven. It's true with every car, but unless it's an 'S' type, you'll take him. Just like I'll take him. Peace_
