I am begining to suffer from the same problem. Except my car is White (Icelandic pearl). Throughout the paint there are little black specs that look like part of the paintjob. I was washing my car on the week end and got up close and noticed a rusty color around these black specs. I rubbed at the spot with my finger and the rust color came off. RUST!!!!!!!! needless to say I am very upset!!!!!!!!!!! My car has lots abd lots of tiny rust spots. The car only has 3600 freakin miles on it!!!!!!!! I am going to see my dealer this weekend and they better be bloody helpful.

Hey OzMax,

Do you work or usually park in a industrial area? Any paint shops around or bodyshops where you park your max?

Reason I ask is, I work in near some bodyshops and I always get hit with tiny overspray dots, kind of what you are describing.
I have ice white too, and it does resemble a rust color.
Check out the Cleaning your Max stickies, and try a clay bar, simple to use, and you will love the results. No buffing, compounding or fingernail picking at those dots, they just slowly disappear. "Viola".. no more rust-lookin dotties and the car feels great! Just remember throw on some coats of wax, that'll help a lot from the build-up again. Wax, not that glaze stuff, that makes the car shine up but it's really short-term. Sorry for the lengthy discussion, but I think it'll help ease your mind.

Max SE, I really don't know bout the fading you're having but I have been getting those rock-lookin' chips just like everyone else, the paint is just really thin to me. Another thing is you have black too, it can just magnify the beauty or the pain.. I feel for you man. Last note, check out the Cleaning stickies too, a lot of guys take extra care of their Blacks (their special techniques, a lot work for me, even tho ice white)

Hope this helps

No I don't work/travel in or near an industrial area. I live in a rural area in the northen part of texas and I can't think of anyhting that would contribute to creating these rust spots. I guess it must just be inconsistencies in the paint. It looked like that when I bought it, but I thought the dots were part of the paint job. Thanks for your suggestions about the cleaning! I really appreciate it!!!!!!!I will be paying a visit to the dealer though and making sure he knows of the problem and that I am upset. Makes me sick to my stomach!!! I owned a 1975 datsun coupe that had a better paint job than this!!!

Drop a VG30 engine in that and you'll have a 1975 Datsun that's faster than your Max too.

Yeah I know pathetic isn't it. Actually the datto was pretty bad already!! Had the old L20 with very lumpy cam two twin 42mm webbers, Head and piston work, 5speed , roll cage etc. Was orig built for rally back in the land of Oz (australia). Hated to part ways with it so many triumphs so many memories. Was hoping that max would suffice for the old datto but it seems like it might be a nightmare.

You are correct, it is rust - but it is coming from your brakes.
They are metallic and get burned off in the process of braking.
Those hot pcs. of metal come off the brake pads and fly around.
Some stick to the clear coat of the paint, imbedding themselves.
They then start to rust over a couple days. Best thing to do is to use a clay bar and then a good wax job- Ziano.
I'm not happy about it myself- it really shows up with the Icelandic
Pearl paint job. Chips are increasing as well - poor paint process.

Thanks for the input. I guess that makes sense. I will have to hit the car with one of those clay bars and a good wax job. I really appreciate everyones assistance!!!!
