Hinged and Fixed FSTB Question

Anybody know the differences in handling between a fixed and hinged FSTB. Also are they the same for 2k1 and 2k2 maxima's? Which would you recommend Courtesy or Stillen? Hey I know, alot of questions but I appreciate the help.

Thanks

There should be no differende in hinged or fixed. Once you tighten the bolts, there will be no moving parts.

As for a brand, they basically all do the same thing. Find one you like (looks) that fits in your budjet.

As for fitting the 2K vs 2k2, I'm not sure on that.

They both work about the same... However, right now only the Courtesy bar will fit both the 2k1 and 2k2. The only real difference other than appearance is in the $$$.

Terrific question. I've thought about this quite a bit. I suspect that a hinged bar will allow more flex between struts on the vertical axis when compared to a fixed FSTB. I think both should perform similarly in the horizontal axis though. Any thoughts?

Actually the bidding on the 2K2 FSTB on ebay is closed. They were selling for $60.00 + $12.00 shipping. I've got his e-mail and have been trying to get in touch with him all day to see if he has plans on selling anymore? If you like I'll keep you up to date?

Fixed is more stable

I read an article on this the other day in the Roundel (BMW mag). The fixed bar is supposed to be stronger and more rigid than the hinged. The comment was that if it is hinged, it is just "under hood jewelry." Don't have one myself, but considering one in the near future.

He did say he's getting more in next week. Given i tested it out for him he mentioned something about "discounted pricing" for multiple orders. Group buy anyone?

Is the Courtesy FSTB fixed or hinged? What about the Stillen?

Hey, Mike...

I would be interested. Have one but have not yet put it in since I haven't had the chance to ghetto rig around that bracket. Looks like the one you linked to had a notch to take that into account.

Re: Hey, Mike...

Thake the what into account and the who and what where now?

Seriously, i have his number. When we talked the other day (Monday) he said he ran out of stock but do have a lot more coming in the next week. I'll call him back later to check on availability and group pricing

Btw, i didn't have to rig anything. It fit fine, i'll post updated photo's later, the one i posted up there now is somewhat tilted. That was when i first installed it... silly me dunno how to install an FSTB LOL! (Thanks again to see5 and emax95 for the help)

Re: FSTB

Are you talking about this one?. Nope, that's not the one.

However, that was the one a lot of us talked about before and i was supposed to test that one out as well but Ebay cancelled the auction for some reason. I took that as a blessing in disguise.

Anyway, a couple of people here was able to purchase and testfit it on their 2k2. I can't recall who though but he also posted photo's.

The airbox bracket on the top of the driver's strut tower. Not sure if 2002's still have it, but 2001 does.
