My Weird a$$ has a totally weird a$$ problem!

Hey guys, this is the weirdest thing in the world, but everytime I get out of my car I get shocked! I swear to god! Every single time I get out I get zapped like ****. Even when the car is off and I get in and get out ZAP!

I don't think I have any wires that are well open, my nozzle lights were cut but I tied up the look cables with electrical tape *until I put a switch in, you know I cant be a ricer all the time just half!* and well I do have alot of cables going through my car inside into a cig. lighter splitter(actually 5-er!) for radar, neons, telephone, and stuff...

I'm just worried if its a big deal like can it spark in my gas and start a fire or is it some weirdo non important problem. thanks in adv. happy valentines day peeps!

Re: My Weird a$$ has a totally weird a$$ problem!

It's called static electricity. The charge builds up as your car moves, more so during the winter because of dry air. You get out, you touch the car, and you get zapped. End of story.

No its, the carpet and the seats... heres how i do it.. you get in the car, and when you want to get out, open the door, and touch the oustide/door of the car and then put your feet down and close the door.. end of story.. no zap.

I FEEL YA BRO!!!!

I get it every d@mn time I get outta my car also. My god is it annoying. It doesnt matter what I do or wear (I'll try AzWonTonboy's idea tomorrow) I still get shocked.
I had just pretty much chalked it up to my electric personality

Dont worry your not alone!!!

You are both right. Moving through warm air can impact a charge on a car. Just as brushing against a cloth interior can do. Increased humidity will discharge some of the buildup.

Total Solution. Swear it works. Hold the key (not the rubber coating, but the actual key), and then touch the key to the door. The charge goes through the key into the door causing the key to get shocked...not you. And no, it will not mess up the computer chip.

Yeah...that key thing really works until four years from now you look down at your door panels and door jamb and you see a thousand little dinks in the paint from the key!

BEST OPTION: (and believe me, I know this from my GXE cloth seats) When you are getting out, loop your finger around the metal door jamb loop after you open the door but BEFORE you move to leave. I actually use it to pull myself out a bit. WHen you let go as you stand up, the static electricity will have passed through your body and grounded to your car.

Same principle as the key idea, just easier and no constant metal-to-paint contact. Try it!

i tried using my leg to begin shutting the door, because its less sensitive than my hand, and its clothed...but i think i like the "hold on to the door as you get out and let it ground through the car" idea better.

And I thought I was the only one this happend to. It happens to me to also, but it did not happend to me in my old car as much as my max. Lately I have been getting shocked every day for the last two weeks and it has been getting on my nerves. Oh well now i know how to prevent it or at least stop it for the time being. Thanks for the advice guys.

funny you should bring that up cuz i've noticed lately that it's happening so much more frequently with much more electricity. it actually kinda hurts now. i was thinkin maybe i should hit my interior with a sheet of bounce or sumtin.

happy VD

When you get in or out of the car just touch the car with your shirt preferably touch it with your shoulder which has the most meat or fatty tisue. At least this works for me.

What if you don't have any fatty tissue?

I've got something pretty meaty, but I don't want to go touching it to the car after I get out...it'll hurt too much!

But seriously...I'm looking forward to warmer weather, although I bought my Max in September and the static electricity seems to ALWAYS be bad with this car. Kinda makes me wish I had leather.

My car also does this, you can sometimes see the spark it is so bad. Does it happen with leather interior too?

By the way, nipple shocks hurt.

Here's something to try, it worked for me in an old car. Take a Bounce sheet (you know the laundry fabric softener) and rub it all over the seat. You should probably use one per seat. When I did it, it lasted about two weeks or so. My Formula used to shock me in the summer and winter, it sucked.

Either that or only where leather pants, no this tidbit of info isn't from experience.

And, it normally doesn't happen with leather. In a leather car though the carpet can cause a spark.

Yes, leather does it too, just not as bad.
Trivial Info:
3,000 volts, you feel it
6,000 volts you hear it
8,000 volts you see it
