Custom CatBack
I was thinking about doing my catback pipe custom. I was looking at 3 inch but then people were telling me that I'll lose back pressure. With the loss of back pressure, Ill lose HP is that true? Should I look at 2.5 or 3 inch?
I do plan on boosting later...but thats much later...I got a quote of about 4k-5k for a complete turbo system fabricated for my 2k with intercooler..gauges...etc...
would the 3 inch cause loss of back pressure beforehand?

yo its ok mentioned spacers on factory wheels
what's with the spacers? rear wheels look like they need to stick out 1/2 to 1" more than they do from the factory to me.. are these spacers something that would help?
Just purchased a 2000 SE MAX with 17's. love the car, and love this forum.

I have a 2.5" B pipe custom fabbed while I was bored at work. Terminating w/ factory muffler. I've done a 2 1/4" for a customer of mine, and it is quieter than the 2 1/2" pipe on my car...power wise not much difference.

Yeah I use H&R spacers to get them more flush with the wheel wells. They help, but put a lot more load on the suspension components. I'm thinking of getting 17 x 8 SSR GT 1's a company I trust, and the wheels look great. Pair them up with 245/45R17 tires, ohhhhh can u say sweeeeeeet.
For now, I can care less what wheels I have on. All I gotta say is that no one messes with me since I don't have rims and I have a drop. Some sharp ricers notice my wheels are spaced out further, but its subtle. Amen.

mandrel?
Guys,
I'm still not sure the xtra bucks spent for mandrel bends are worth the extra bucks ... I've talked to a bunch of people .. even some exhaust guys ... & when I pressed them 4 an answer on the HP or torque gains from mandrel vs crimp bends ... they finally agreed that it doesn't make a noticeable difference at all ... what're your thoughts?

ohboiya . . .
I'm on my second generation catback. My first gen was crimp-bent, 2-1/2" piping to a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler (chambered). My second gen is mandrel-bent, 2-1/2" piping to a Magnaflow muffler (straight through). I notice a slight increase in performance on the top end with the second gen, but probably not enough to justify the difference in cost.
One word of caution. Whatever you decide to do, make certain you use a REPUTABLE muffler shop to do the work. Check around and get some referrals if you aren't already aware of a shop that has an excellent reputation.
