Random Tech Cat instructions and components

What components are supposed to come with the RT Cat?

I have:

The Cat
2 gaskets
2 bolts
2 headless bolts
6 lock washers
3 nuts of one size
2 nuts of another size
1 nut of even another size with some sort of washer jammed on it
one larger washer
Anyone have a list of what exactly I need to install this plus the basic install instructions. What was the consensus on heat shield facing up or down?

Thanks!

I didn't get the install kit... just went to Home Depot and bought 2 bolts, 2 nuts, and 4 washers... reused the stock gaskets.

Heat shield faces upwards.

What is the best way to clean up the gaskets? I bought this used from another .org member so trying to figure out what is needed since I got this pile of hardware. What do I need these headless bolts for?

How long should the install take at a skilled and reputable shop? (I always pay cash and work the deal out before install)

Sorry, I used 4 bolts, 4 nuts, 8 washers. Forgot about the other side.

Use brake cleaner to clean the gaskets.

Headless bolts? No need for them. Use the hardware I listed and you should be fine.

Install depends on if your bolts are seized up or not. Should take anywhere between 15-60 minutes. Again, this depends on your nuts....

... and bolts of the stock cat.

Re: Random Tech Cat instructions and components

All that comes with the Cat is the Cat, and thats it.

You buy the gaskets, bolts, washers, etc. I had to use what I had in the garage to make it work. I gave them to you when I sold you the Cat.

Headless bolts are the stock bolts that are on the car. They just screw into the cat (stock cat). The guy I got it from used those. Use bolts on each side of it.

2.5" 3" would be an overkill on an NA car.

thanks for the info also I know you have the y-pipe but I was wondering if you think it is to loud to use on the highways and public roads.

The answer to this depends on taste/preference. I don't think my exhaust setup is loud, but that's relative.

This video is with a CAI, Stillen y pipe, RT Cat, and Stillen muffler:

... which was way louder than my current setup Stillen SC, Stillen y pipe, RT Cat, GReddy cat-back:

Thanks! How long can the bolts be? Do the 8 washers need to be lock washers?

Not too long and not too short. I suggest measuring your stock bolts and go with those measurements. Nope, no need to be lock washers.
