Michelin Engergy MXV4 Tires

Anybody running them? If so, what is your opinion of them? I went thru my stock tires in no time, and now it's time to get a new set.

Specific size that I'll be getting is: P215/55 R16 91H's.

Any/all input is appreciated.

The MXV4 has been discontinued by Michelin, so anywhere you find them...you are finding old stock still lying around.

It was a mediocre performing tire with a very quiet ride and very long tread-life. Not your first choice for a performance sedan.

The current model equivalent is the Michelin Pilot MXM4 and is a good touring tire.

I have been running the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S with a huge amount of success along with several other forum members.

Price really doesn't concern me at this time. I'm looking for something that will really grip the road. Very rarely do I race due to the over abundance of law enforcement in this area (give a redneck a badge and they are 10' tall and bulletproof). LOL!!

I've only talked with one tire dealer in the area (multiple sales people) and they kept leading to that tire. I don't like off brands, hate Yokohama's, and won't touch a Bridgestone/Firestone tire.

Any other suggestions?

There are several variations on the MXV4. The Energy Plus is still in production. They are OK. They tend to sqeak when pushed in turns. I much perfer the Pilot XGT-H4. Snapier response and feels more like a real performance tire, even though it's also an all season. They are also a bit cheaper than the MXV4+.

Check out the reviews posted by other people who own a specific brand and model of tire at the TireRack site. I've found this input to be invaluable when doing tire research in the past. You'll get vastly more input there than you will here.

Re: Re: Michelin Engergy MXV4 Tires

The tire was designed with BMW's and Mercedes in mind. Their suspensions are designed to operate with a tire like that. The sidewalls are too soft for the maxima, which was designed to run with tires that have stiff sidewalls. i recommend Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.

tires

I am in your shoes. On the car, wife is driving, has the stock Toyos at almost 30k miles. The worst rain tire ever next to the Goodyear Eagle G/A.

What model do you have? 5 speed or auto? The Energy MXV4 Plus is available at Costco for $130.00 per tire. I did not see the Pilot sport A/S, but have heard that some Costco's have them. Pilot A/S W rated, great handling (softer compound) with higher wear vs. Energy MXV4, H rated with great wet traction and (harder compound) longer life. A compromise between the two is the Pilot XGT V4. It is the entry point of the Michelin Pilot line. With a V rating, the handling and wear is in the middle. Hope the layman's language helps with learning tire jargon.

As mentioned by e28fixer, the Tirerack is an excellent resource. I have bought tires from them in the past and have drop shipped the tires to a recommended installer.

Since the wife will be driving the car for the next 2 years, I will probaly get the Energy MXV4s, cheaper and easier to get installed at Costco. After that, I will probaly get H&R springs and performance struts with the Michelin Pilot line.

Hope that helps.

John

The Dunlop Sport 5000 is a great all-seaon tire. You have to go to 225 for it though.
