From auto to manual...

I have a question. How much would it cost to get my 2002 Nissan Maxima SE auto into a manual? Also, would this conversion be the same as a newly bought 2002 Nissan Maxima manual?

It is, almost certainly, cheaper to trade your '02 auto in for a six-speed '02 today than do the conversion. The conversion would cost you several thousand dollars, completely void the warranty on your transmission and likely cause many problems over the years.

If you're really that hard up for a six-speed, trade your car in while it is practically new. You'll take a bath, but at least you won't have all the hassle of the conversion.

Plus, the converstion, since there is no basis for doing one would likely require having your Maxima in the shop for several weeks.

You'd have to buy a new 6spd tranny because you most likely won't find a 6spd in the junk yard already. Don't know the extent of the installation/removal but I am sure it will cost a few thousand for everything. Just trade your car in.

you'd be better off trading in your auto for a manual--Is there a problem with the auto? Why not try a vb mod?

the tranny itself will be @$1K used, $2K+ new...that's the cheap part...the labor would be thousands more...plus a new ECU (can you even get a new one from Nissan???...you would have to find that in a junkyard)

if you're doing it in two years...wait for the new Max to come out and then trade up

I'd say it is a pretty safe bet that Nissan will not honor the warranty for a 2002 Auto Maxima if you drive up with a six-speed.
