Konig Tantrum and tire questions

ok i have used the search and read lots of posts about this topic but i dont know much about it and im just getting confused...

i currently have the 16" alloy GXE wheels with dunlop winter sport M2s. i have an RSB and FTSB.

i think im going to get the Konig Tantrum 17x8s. i really like the looks of this rim and its reasonably priced and i think they are reasonably light. also i live in north dakota so no one else has them here so thats not a problem
is this a good idea or should i get the 17x7 or 17x9s. 17x7s are lighter but people seem to think the 17x8 is the best choice.
discounttiredirect.com has them for $168, is that the best price im going to find?

what size tire should i get? discounttiredirect.com gives me these three options

215/50-17
225/50-17
235/45-17

i dont want my spedometer to be off and i want better cornering. my snow tires corner really poorly. i saw a link once to a place that would tell you if your spedometer would be off with certain wheels but i couldnt find it anymore. could someone post the link along with the stock 16" tire size that i have now?

thanks a lot for any help!

I think 235x45R17 is the best size to maintain to be as close to odo readings. btw try Konig Subzeros they're like 1.5 lbs lighter per wheel than Tantrums.

I considered buying from discounttiredirect.com too, they are very competitive with their 90 days same as cash. Let us know how your experience turnes out. I wish someone did a group deal so they knock off $100-150 off.

you can use the search function here, there were a few links to rim weight-related websites...if you're buying from a place like tirerack, or discounttire, they have all of this info.

I had K Tantrums wrapped with dunlop 5000 17X8 235/45/17 on my 2000 max that was crashed on 10/07/01. handling was very powerful and looks great too. try that

I would go with the 17x8 and the 235/45s. The 17x7 rims drastically limit your tire selection if you want to abide by the manufactures safety ratings (17x7 rims should have a tire no wider than 225). There are very few tire options in 225/50. With the 17x8 rims, 235/45 is a safe size and tire selection is huge.

Good luck.

If you go with 215/50-17, your speedometer will read 60 mph when you are actually travelling 60.4 mph.

If you go with 225/50-17, your speedometer will read 60 mph when you are actually travelling 61.3 mph.

If you go with 235/45-17, your speedometer will read 60 mph when you are actually travelling 60 mph (technically it is slightly slower, but you will be unable to detect the difference and it won't matter to the police since you will be going slower than your speedometer reads).
