Gonna Dyno Saturday

I am gonna dyno my car this Saturday. I have never done it before and I am dealing with a reputable shop. Is there anything I should do before the dyno to get my car preped. Also what gear should they get the results from. I will post the numbers and charts when I get them. What are good numbers for a 5 speed with JWT and Cattman Y?? I am hoping for around 200 fwhp, is this about right?

I thought 2k/2k1 5 spds put down about 185 -190 fwhp stock... And then adding an intake and y pipe was good for another 15 -20 fwhp. I think that 200 sounds reasonable based on what others have said some time ago.

around 200 is reasonable for a 5th gen. and the mods you have. Good luck and let us know hot it turns out.

Run it in 3rd gear.

You should get around low 200s whp. Normally, there is a spike of 3-5 hp at redline when the limiter is hit. The shop should "smooth" that spike out automatically. The 2ks we've done have put down low 190s stock.

Make sure you get results in electronic format so you can post them easily.

Good luck!

No, 4th gear is THE gear to dyno in! Everyone dynoes in 4th gear(except auto's).

If you don't believe me do a search!

3rd gear will put down more HP because the transmission multiply's the power because of the gear ratio is off. The key is to dyno the car as close to 1.0 ratio, 4th gear is that gear.

That's probably true for the 6speed. If I recall correctly on the 5speeds, a true 1.0 gear ratio is somewhere between 3rd and 4th (i.e. 4th is a bit of an overdrive gear).

Think most 5spds dyno'd in 3rd but if search says otherwise, I'm wrong. I dyno'd in 3rd and always have for comparison purposes.

Either way, if you are having the problem I am, it will show up in either gear.

3rd gear in a 5 speed is 1.274 4th is .954. I'd say .954 is closer to 1 than 1.274.
