I have a 2000 Maxima SE manual transmission. I am concerned about a noise that is coming from the clutch. It doesnt happen all of the time, mainly when it is cold, or when Im using the clutch a lot in traffic and I only hear it in first gear. Im hearing a rubbing noise, like 2 pieces of metal sliding against each other. It concerns me only because ive had the car for only 3 months. Granted this is my first car with a manual transmission it might be the way Im driving it, but everyone that drives with me says that I use the clutch correctly. But I wanted to ask you guys if you happen to know what the sound is and if it is somthing I should worry about. Any help on correctly using the clutch would be a great help too. I love kicking honda's asses off the line, Im not great at it yet but i'm getting there.

My clutch makes a grinding noise also, I took the car into the dealer and they say nothing is wrong. so I left it at that. but they know I've already been there once, so if it breaks then its not like I didn't take it in.

I've got the same f'n problem. It's been doing it since I got the car. Most of the time when its warmed up already. However, I can't get it to happen when the service guy is in the car. It usually happens when the car is going up a hill and I'm engaging 1st gear.

Keep me updated, if anyone hears of any fixes or Service Bulletins.

it happened again today

It really pissed me off. I just got my car back from the dealership for its 7500 mile oil change and tire rotation. I was driving home and i was going up hill in traffic trying to merge onto the freeway. Im workin the clutch in first gear cause traffic sucks out here, and I start hearing that damn noise again. Its just really pissing the sh*t out of me. Im sure if I were to take it to the dealership they would say nothing is wrong also..

Yes, you are the newest member of our club!

I have the same problem! Rumbling, rubbing, grinding, shaking; there are many words to describe the problem. I thought it was just me, but now find that others have the same condition.

Just for fun, I must add that, I, too, have had starting problems on a few occasions, and I have also experienced the infamous "fuel cut" problem while cruising in 1st gear at 2000-2800 RPM. Will these issues ever be resolved by Nissan? Who knows...

FYI My post on "shaking" :

I figured I join in on this also...I have the same problem where the clutch makes a "hooon" like noise. It only happens in first but occurs when I'm on a hill or the clutch is cold. To all with this problem when did you notice it? I have 21k on my max and this problem started around 20k.

I started hearing it around 2k miles.. Its soooo sparatic, it sometimes does it on flat roads when I start out in the upper 2500 rmps and release the clutch. I paid way too damn much for this car to be hearing this ****. But it doesnt seem like nissan will be doing too much about it.
