Holy $hit! In-cabin microfilter is $39.16 discount price.

Damn! Dave B. just sent me one and it's regularly $48.95, but he discounted it to $39.16. I'm glad he only sent one, when I asked him for two.

The thing that really gets me is that it says on the box to replace it every 6-months. Anybody think that's high for something that's susposed to be changed every 6-months?

My current filter has ~14-months and 11K miles on it and my A/C smells pretty bad . I hope this helps reduce some of the musky smell.

Hey Ice,

I don't know how to remove it but for the bad smells check the filter that located right in front of the wipers. I think there is a sponge filter in there that may need changing.

You mean windshield wipers?

Any more clues of what I'm looking for or where at?

Colonel, thanks!

I just wish I new that was where it was at when I put in my shift light. I already had everything out of the way. Oh well.

I let you guys know how it goes this weekend, but it looks really simple and not too exciting.

Coo beans...hope there is no issues with your install because after looking at the 2K2 last night and mine this morning...mine looks kinda bland and unfinished. The new one looks pretty good.

IceY2K1: Maint on Filter

The replacement maintenace on the in-cabin filter I thought was every 15,000 miles. This microfilter filters outside pollutants (pollen, dust, etc.) and maybe inside pollutants as well not sure though. As far as the nasty smell your getting from your A/C when you turn it on sounds like you may have a mold problem within the A/C's condenser. You might want to take it to Nissan and get it checked out. They can sometimes fix the smell problem but from what I've heard it doesn't always work.

Thanks. I know about the "fix". I'm just eliminating one more trip to the dealer, because the first "fix" they are going to try is replacing the micro-filter and charging me for the install and overpriced retail cost of the filter.

You know the suck as much money out of the customer as possible, before actually fixing the problem routine we Nissan "customers" have come to expect and "enjoy".

when I used to work at the dealership all we did was spray the vents with this A/C cleaner and it gives off a nice scent and supposedly kills the mold that causes this smell. Not sure if they sell this stuff at auto parts store though.

...not too bad really... I installed it in my 2k. You have to remove the glovebox to get to it, which is kind of annoying but not hard. After that it snaps in. My microfilter came with instructions (or maybe it was in the owner's manual).

RalphW,
He's the part guy for Maxwell Town North Nissan in Texas. He give Maxima.org members a discount on parts. His number is 800-251-7278.

Cisco,
Supposedly the incabin microfilter was an option. However, I've never heard or seen a Maxima without one, so I'm not sure if any came without it. You would need to talk to Dave B. about if you can add one, if your car didn't come with one.

Re: Re: Re: Holy $hit! In-cabin microfilter is $39.16 discount price.

My 00 SE did not have the microfilter in at the time of purchase despite having almost all the other options, except the cd changer (meridian, leathe, bose, traction control, mats, moonroof deflector, mud flaps etc). I thought it was cheap not to include it and charge so much for it later. I did finally have one installed, but next time I will try to do it myself. Of note, after the filter was in, I could not tell any difference in the air quality. I guess it is doing something but it is not obvious to me. If there is a bad smeel in the car it probably won't change with this filter. I think it is more important for folks with allergies who want to eliminate irritants.

The nissan website has service coupons. (follow the links under "owning".) One coupon is for the in-cabin microfilter. It says it's from $29.95* (*for the xterra and pathfinder)You can bring this in to the dealer and see how much they charge for the Maxima version.
