I just purchased a set of "Black Pearl" license plate frames from Serious Auto. These are made of stainless steel. They look really nice on the SE! The frames look bright chrome from one angle and black from another. They match the dark "Maxima SE" lettering really nice. What does it look like directly behind the car, silver or black?

 

It looks like mostly black chrome! But what's really cool is, depending on the lighting, it'll look lighter/darker.
