Are the Bose and the standard headunit the same other than the 6 CD changer for2k2's?

I was looking though my user's manual of my just purchased 
6-speed HSLD Max when I noticed that the two headunits are identical except for the 6CD changer. Does this mean that the Bose upgrade is merely a subwoofer and a CD changer? Definitely not worth the extra money if this is true.
