New Maxima lover !!!!!!!!
I have been "lurking" around the org, and reading the gripes, complaints and praises of Maxima owners. IMO we have the best "cult following" of an excellent auotmobile. I traded my 1999 Honda Accord LX SDN, for a 2k2 Maxima 6spd in Dec 2001, and will never regret that decision. We have the best sport sedan on the market for the american dollar. Where else can you 255 hp to the crank for under 30k in a 6spd? I just wanted to express my thanks to Maxima.Org and fellow MAX owners, and to the wannabe MAX owner... Your day will come to join us.
My 2 cents..
P.S... a new cult memeber to the forum has arrived.

Couldn't agree with you more, man. I'm a relative newbie myself, lurking and reading. Bought my SE in Dec 2001 as well, and have just started posting here and there. And would like to second your thanks to the .org vets who have laid down all the wisdom and experience on the finest sport sedan for under $75,000 (hey, a M5 is a M5...)
Gracias!

Welcome, and you are correct, the Max has been nearly one of a kind since the introdcution of the 3rd Gen in 89. The competiton took years to get close to the Max in my opinion!

It still amazes me that the majority of US buyers overlook the Maxima when shopping for a sedan, it's like everybody has been hypnotized to go straight to the Accord or Camry. All it takes is a test drive to be converted. I truly believe that the Camry and Accord are overrated unless you shop for a car like you shop for an appliance, the Maxima is one of a few Japanese sedans that have character, not to mention superior performance, unique looks, and relatively good handling. Even though the Maxima have some annoying design flaws like the huge turning radius, torque steer, and crappy transimissions, I still think they're a blast to drive and great bargain.

All it took was one drive in a Maxima 5spd to convert me from an Accord V6/auto

I agree. Although I never drove the 5th gen. I'm convinced that Nissan has cracked the code with providing a most satisfying FWD sedan just like BMW is years ahead of the competition with a RWD premium sports sedan (although we'll wait for the Infiniti G35 comparison test). As for Camry V6/Accord V6 vs. Maxima, I agree again. Against the Camry V6, you give up so little refinement (mainly road roar and ride) but get so much more soul and performance. And a recent ride in my friend's '01 Accord V6 vs. my other friend's '00 Max GXE and I can't see why so many magazines bow to the Accord as the king.
