For a 18 year old boy/man. (graduation present) he's going to college at GA TECH, so off road performance doesnt really matter...Although he does like to take his Explorer 4x4n' sometimes. Any thoughts??

THANKS

Hey ... Forget about the 4 Runner, my buddy has one and its WAY underpowered and the "LIMITED" one (top of the line) cost as much as a INFINITY QX4 (which Beats it in EVERY way, by 8 Fold)! 4RUNNER <-----Pathfinder/QX4

I have a 98 Pathfinder and I enjoy it, just that it's 168 Horses don't really cut it!!

The NEW ones 2000+ has 240 Horses on TAP, I've test driven it and it Accelerates Real quick, it pulls out like a V8!!!

LE and SE has the Option of getting the AUTOMATIC 4wheel drive system from the QX4 (Which is Borrowed from the SKYLINE!!!!!!! )

So FORGET the 4 Runner ... its a OLD truck thats WAAAAAAAAY overdue for a TOTAL REDISIGN!!!

My .02!!

Re: I got a Pathfinder ... BUT ...

Test drove both and all my money would go to the pathfinder.

for a nicely optioned 4rummer you could but a qx4.
go out and test drive both.
i'm sure the pathfinder will be the right choice

Pretty COOL truck ... got pretty decent reviews ... plus it'll be a better fit for him since he's only 18!!!!!!

The XTERRA was aimed at the YOUNG Outdoor youth!

Thats why its cheap too!

P.S. The XTERRA should be getting the SUPERCHARGED Engine from the FRONTIER Next year (only a few months away)

So do ya think U could hold out until then?? hehehe

Get the PATHFINDER >>>>>

I have a friend that has the RUNNER and he says that it has NO POWER at all, I believe him, I have driven his truck and it is very slow, Power is sometimes safety, you may need to have power to pull yourself out when going 4X4ing or accellerating on an on ramp on the highway. Good Luck !!!!

XTERRA!!!!

YES!! The XTerra is a great sport ute. and he always talks about how cool it is. and its rugged, but still nice for a SUV. How many more hp are squeezed out with the supercharger? Thanks...oh wait...concern, Nissan redid the Frontier! doesnt that mean that there will be a xterra redesign soon?? THANKS

Hehe ... NOPE ... the only reason they REDID the Frontier was because the BOLD Look of the XTERRA sold so well!

Well the CURRENT XTERRA has 170 Horses 200 Torque ... with the New FRONTIER engine ... its 210 Horses 240 Torque!! WOW!!!!!

2001 Pathfinder DEFINITELY!!!

Hey I just bought my wife a 2001 Pathfinder LE and she loves it!!! I test drove just about every mid-size SUV on the market and the only one that I thought out performed the Pathfinder was the Lexus RX300, but that was quickly ruled out with the $40,000+ price tag. I really enjoy our Pathfinder especially the pickup and the handling. With the new 240 hp/265 torque engine the Pathfinder will zip (By SUV standards) to 60 mph in 8.8 seconds which is WAY BETTER than the 2K Pathfinder which did 0-60 in 10.9 seconds. The unibody construction gives the Pathfinder a car-like ride with almost NO body roll. I only wish they would put this "torquey" engine into the maxima. I paid $28,500 for my LE Pathfinder at Bankston Nissan in Irving, TX and it was listed at $31,904.00 which amounts to $100 over dealer invoice. If you go to Bankston Nissan ask for Benny Martinez and you can mention my name if it helps. If you buy one you won't be sorry. Good luck.

Re: 2001 Pathfinder DEFINITELY!!!

THANKS EVERY 1 for their opinions...but the more i read about the Xterra the more i like it...pathfinder is a GREAT car, but i think even 28k is a little much for a 18 year old. Anyone here about this new TrailBlazer from Chevy?? IT LOOKS N'CREDIBLE. But chevy's suck...

I had a 994Runner b4 I got my Maxima. I only drove that thing for about 6months before it started falling apart. had the SR5 4x4 auto. the problem is that Toyota Trucks cost a lot of money, and there are soo meny options on that thing. My truck was stickered for $32K and I got it for $27,800. U can get a well equiped Pathfinder for that much money, but if U put a pathfinder next to a 4Runner the 4Runner looks bigger and taller. I thinks its b/c of its big tires, and large fenders. Power was good enough for me. I don't know what U guys are talking about as far as the 4Runner haveing no power. U sure it wasn't a I4 insted of the V6. Now My Sister just got a 01 Xterra about a month or so ago. Very cool and it doesn't break the budget. $22K for an XE 4x2 Auto. A bit smaller then the Pathfinder or 4Runner but very well built. I think its Ideal for a 18year old boy. if U have the cash then the pathfinder or 4Runner would be Ok but if U R watching your cash then Xterra seems the right choice.

Honestly, I don't think i'm gonna get into 4x4z again but if I did, Unless Nissan makes the Pathfinder a little bigger, I think I'ld still get the 4Runner b/c of its resale value, its size and some of the features U can get on it like slideing rear window, big *** tires and solid fender flaires. but the Price OUCH. If U look at a pathfinder, U get a lot of options standard so I like that a lot about Nissan. well thats the case with most Nissan cars. U get a lot for your money.

The new supercharged Frontier Crew Cab would have to be my choice. It brings the HP from 170 to 210, however, the torque jumps from 200 to 246ft-lbs. I am waiting for one of the dealers here in NH to get one I can test drive. The small bed in back is a great trade-off as I am always concerned about what I dump in the back of my carpeted PF now. I drove the non-SC version about a month ago and was impressed with it then. After one more winter on the '94 Pathfinder, I think that the Frontier will be the new replacement. I do take my truck off-road and was disapointed with the unibody construction on the new Pathfinders, as well as the performance. The Frontier is built on a full ladder/box frame.
