B&M Racing short shifter

does anyone have this mob on 2000-2001 max? B&M rep told me they make them and part #45087. I checked it out and web site gives me a shifter for 99 Sentra.

It SHOULD work. They are pretty similar and don't seem to vary much even between different generations. As long as the shifter piviot ball is the same size and the shifter T(very bottom of shifter) connects to the shift linkage it should work.

My SMC "Kwik Shift" STS box says it works on:
G20 1991-1996
Maxima 1995-2001
Sentra 1991-1994
NX 1991-1993

The directions say it works on:
Sentra 1991-2001
200SX 1995-1999
G20 1991-2001
Maxima 1995-2001

Now that I've installed mine, I think it would have been better just cutting down the STOCK shifter vs. installing a STS. The SMC STS causes the shifter to be difficult to get into gears sometime, especially on 4-3 downshifts, due to the increase angle it puts on the shift linkage. As you shorten the throw it adds more angle to the shift linkage and makes the gearbox lever movement non-linear. If you cut the STOCK shifter down you don't add angle to the shift linkage and you only reduce the height not throw. I guess by reducing the height you do slightly shorten the throw, but not as much as moving the shift ball piviot point.

If it was actually "adjustable" like some of the B&M shifters for other cars, you could change the throw and height withOUT uninstalling it completely. That would be SWEEEEEET!

i know you know but im just wanted you to know that cutting the shifter will not make the stock throws any shorter, its just the height.

as for the 4-3 shifts, yes its hard, but you need to adjust to it, and it still is fairly linear, you just have to throw it straight up, it all depends on how you hold the shift **** when shifting as well.

i adjusted my smc shifter to the lowerest setting, and i hadnt found any linear difference between stock and the sts. just a slightly shorter height and nice shorter throw.. plus you can FEEL it locking into gear.

Has anyone cut down the sotck shifter? I would think that it would help a bit. The stock shifter is way too tall. Any bad side effects?

FOOL...I know what you wrote, but you went on to talk about your modded SMC shifter! I didn't know you actually CUT your stock shifter...I assumed you were just hypothesizing!

Did you actually cut the stock shifter, or are you just guessing what it would do to the car?
