Upgraded 2002 Stock Bose System

I'm not a audio nut so my knowledge of car stereo systems is far from extensive. With that said, I'm wondering if a can blow my speakers just by turning the volume way up. If so/not what is the maximum volume the system will go. Thanks!!!

you can blow any speakers by turning them all the way up.. you don't have to be an audio nut to figure that out.. it just takes common sense.. you want your radio to go louder.. buy a better system

Listen, after dropping $25,000 for a car the last thing I want is to buy better stereo system so I can have some thing "COOL" that vibrates quarters on my hood. I was just curious if anyone knew the approximate max volume of the stock system so I wouldn't blow my speakers.

Except for very high quality (and pricey) sound systems, best rule of thumb is the 11 o'clock setting. You'll acheive highest output/quality ratio at that setting. Just imagine the **** volume as a clock and you'll get the picture. For the Max, it's a little bit more complicated, since we do not have that visual clue. But I would suggest going no more than 45%. Otherwise, you'll have to buy subcomponents (amplifiers, sub, and so on) and you dont what to do that...

The best way is to make it a try... slowly raise the volume, and as soon as you get distortion, stop, roll back a bit, and that's it, the highest point...

Also, beware of sound level when playing a ripped cd (such as MP3 playbacks). Sudden changes in sound levels could lead to speakers blowing out in a fraction of a second.....

Good luck!!!

Most of the people here upgrade their stereo for sound quality, not to bass out neighborhoods and definitely not to be 'cool'. The Bose system is a piece of junk to anyone who is the slightest audiophile, if you're not one, more power to you.

seriously...bose is definatly adequate for most of the consumers..it does have a subwoofer..for some extra kick..but if your wanting to roll your windows down..turn up the music and drive..the bose wont quite do that for you. But if your a commuter and like a little music..its a nice upgrade. But otherwise throw it out!

I have a Maxima 2000 with a Bose system, I upgraded my stock deck to an mp3 deck and upgraded the woofer to a 12" JL. The Bose actually sounds really nice without any other mods. In my opinion, all you need is to upgrade the subwoofer.

you have a slight point.. my cousin's bose with a sub sound kinda nice.. you just have to turn the bass down on the int speakers..

The stock Bose system really isn't bad, it sounds clear and I turn it up pretty loud and it still sounds clean, it sounds much better then alot of "custom" decks I have heard on my friends' cars.

I think I saw somebody else post that the max volume setting is 31. I personally haven't taken mine above 21; at 20 it hurts my ears to listen for very long, and some of the music I listen to I think would stand a chance of damaging the speakers if I went much above that.

For the kind of music I listen to, the Bose suits my needs. It hits hard when it needs to and the highs are fine. Except for the occasional rattle in the subwoofer, everything else is fine. I guess it all depends on the kind of music you listen to (sometimes)

You know I think the Bose stereo sounds wonderful, I wish I had bought it this time around. Instead I bought a 600.4 RF amp and fancy MB quart componints and it sounds like crap! I actualy have a bunch of bose speakers laying around and I think I am going to put them in.

I've had the same problem with the rattling, esspecially with the upgraded subwoofer. I found out that the center seat belt box that houses the actual seat belt is causing the rattling. If you stick your head in the trunk and look upward torward where your subwoofer box is you'll see this white plastic box sticking downward. I have heard that if you open it up and stick foam inside that will solve the problem but I haven't had time to try it yet. If any if you has any questions on your audio system I can try to help. I do not know too much but I'll be glad to tell you what I do know. My AIM nick is GiantRoastDuck.

My previuos vehicle was a 2000 gmc sierra where the world is open to upgrade the system....After mods it was a better system than my bose system in my 2k2 max.....
Each speaker in the 2k2 maxima bose system is self amplified; thus not a good idea to upgrade speakers or amplify them EXCEPT ADDING A SUBWOOFER.... if you are satisfied with the bass response then leave the system alone. I don't care for the bose sub... I am not into deep base but would like something tighter in response; so my system was outfitted with an Infinity self-powered/contained system. After reducing the bass response on the bose and adjusting levels on my new enclosure it is almost as nice as my previous system!
so there!

That basslink sounded much better than I expected it to, especially for the price. I'm still trying to decide of I wanna get rid of my amp and earth-shaking jl 15W3. If I did, I'd lose a ton of weight. So when judging the Bose, I guess you should 'weigh' your options .

Ahh, there you are.

Also take note that when you listened to it, the link was only at 1/3rd gain and +1 boost.

That thing can get *very* loud for what it's worth.

C'mon, get rid of those heavy subs and lighten up!

The speakers on my Maxima do not have an individual amp for each speaker. The AMP is mounted on the top of my trunk.

if you pulled the door panels off and you didn't see an amp next to the speaker.. you don't have Bose..

Ethan - i could have told you MB Quartz and sh!tty Rockfords wouldn't sound any better than bose.. just because its big brand doesn't mean it sounds good.. try Diamond Audio next time

Hm... it's definitely a bose speaker, I have a bose woofer, a bose deck from the factory, I also had someone check. It's definitely a bose system. It would not make sense to have a bose deck from the factory and a bose stock woofer and non bose speakers. Even the amp I have in the back (stock) says bose.

How does your new headunit sound with the Bose speakers? Do you have a pic of the headunit, dash? Thanks.

After I replaced the stock deck with a Kenwood MP3 / CD player everything sounded much cleaner , the Bose speakers are still drawing power for the stock amp, the only thing the deck is providing is the signal. I'll go take a picture and send it to you. What's your e-mail address?

Thanks a million. My email address is Gschawla@hotmail.com.
BTW, What kinda adapter did you need? I'm assuming you used a single din HU. If so, how did you fill in the rest of the gap?

I used a car kit esspecially made for Nissan's. There's no gap, instead it's just an extra shelf. You'll see what I mean when I send you the picture.
