Got me a piece of IS300(AUTO) A$$!
A friend I work with had a loaner silver IS300 autoMAGIC while his GS400 was getting serviced.
So, tonight after work I suggested we go for a drive and he was more than willing. Anyways, we drove for awhile and there was tons of traffic and cops. Finally, we pulled over and said we would pull out of the light and go for it. I was behind a mini-van and he was behind me. We turned onto the 50mph road and I pulled into the slow lane in front of the mini-van to allow him to pull next to me. I shifted into third around 65mph and he gunned it as soon as I moved over. He approached my rear bumper-to-quarter panel and I floored it, thinking he was going to get a run on me, but actually I should have waited a little longer. I immediately pulled a car on him by 80mph and continued to pull till 95-100mph when I let off. He said that I pulled on him the whole time, but after 85mph it wasn't as fast, which I pretty much saw in my rearview. So, from 65-95mph he said I would have had about 1-1/2 car lengths if we would have started even. I was probably about 2-2.5 Maxima car lengths(3-4 IS300 car lenghts ) ahead, but when I started he was at my rear quarter panel/bumper.
The exterior styling and rims are nice, but otherwise he was pretty unimpressed and so was I. I checked out the interior which was pretty small/cheap compared to his GS400 and even a Max w/leather. The console is so low you don't have an armrest. The leather seats are mostly swade, the instrument cluster is fugly, the dash is rippled(WTF?), the steering wheel is puny looking, and the auto shifter seems loose/fragile. The engine sounds pretty healthy at WOT in park and the pedals look pretty mean. He was laughing at the performance before we even ran, but he does drive a GS400 so that's not really fair.
That's probably the only time he'll ever see the Max tail-lights.
BTW, I'm 100% STOCK besides the STS which didn't matter in this case.

IS300 are slow from a stop, but not that slow from 60-100mph. Over that I'm pretty sure it would be no contest.

Actually, I've seen a video somewhere of a 6-speed 2K2 against a GS400 on the HWY and it looked close, but the GS400 should win. Magazine numbers are too close to clearly pick a winner.
A slightly modded 6-speed 2K2 might be a different story though. The GS400 is lugging around more weight and has a super soft tranny.

From what i've experienced from 40-90 we were pretty even.

Yea, that's what I was thinking, so that's why I jumped on the gas so soon. I thought his momentum would put him next to me as I hit the gas, but I immediately pulled MORE on him, which I didn't expect to happen as fast. So, it seems like I had a HUGE torque advantage when I was in the low RPMS of 3rd, but once above 85mph the horsepower advantage wasn't as great even though I was ALWAYS pulling.

This powerband is where I think the 2K-2K1 has it's greatest advantage. I love to surprise people, who don't have a chance in hell unless they have over 250hp.

What's up with the selective requoting lately?
