Bose amp on rear deck...
Bose amp on rear deck...
ok.. I'm starting to get alittle tired of the bose. but I had avoided this because of all the trouble of amps on the speakers and such. Well, I think it was BDJonx that mentioned that his 2k1 had a single amp on the rear deck. Someone countered that theirs didn't, a 2k I think.
Well, I don't know about that.. I have a VERY early 2k.. one of the earliest and I have one amp on the deck, right side. It has a ton of wires and seems to fit with what BDJ was saying about 5th gens having a single amp. I havent gotten in the door to confirm that there is no amp there (none on sub), but if its all central like that, it would seem easy to use the existing wiring and put in a bose converter -> nice hq 5 channel amp - > good speakers.
no?
I am tempted to do the head unit too, but I like the idea that it wouldnt get stolen.

What you are suggesting is exactly what I plan to do. You should know the following things: amplifier in the rear deck is for only the speakers in the doors and the tweeters - not the sub, the amplifier sucks -- it has built in EQ that reduces low frequency output from the front speakers, I have not been able to find a harness adapter for the harness going into the stock amp, it is not yet clear to me exactly what signal the Bose head is sending to the amp (could be a differential signal, could be high output, could be low output). You might consider an amp that supports high level differential inputs just in case.
Do a search on my ID in the Audio forum and you can find a post of mine showing pics of the innards of the amplifier from when I pulled it out and opened it up.
Let me know how your upgrade turns out.
