Maxspeed Springs Installed
Maxspeed Springs Installed
Maxspeed springs installed on a 2001 SE (auto) "theMax" and GXE (manual) "Zeitgeist57"
Install took 6 hours for both cars with no breaks. (unless we count the FSTB bolts we broke trying to remove
There were minor differences between the two cars. Bumpstops on the SE were foam inside the rubber dustboot, on the GXE they were part of the rubber dustboot. Bumpstops were not cut. Both cars are running on stock struts. If bottoming out occurs the bumpstops will be cut when new struts installed. Also there was an extra clip on the SE's front brake lines that make the strut a pain to remove. (very tight against the CV boot)
The Good:
Ride is much like stock, hard to tell a difference. Over big bumps it is a little stiffer and on turns...its great!
After the install I drove 70 miles home and found myself (SE) driving 10MPH faster than normal. Very good control at high speeds.
The Bad:
We both have some squeaking/rattling. I'm not sure if its the rubber around the bottom of the stock springs we reused or something else. More on that once we find the problem.
and The Ugly:
The springs are still yellow
Overall The springs are a good buy, you can't go wrong for $85!

Yeah...we had a blast! Eddie and I do agree...despite whatever is making the squeaking/rattling sound, the improved handling and stance is well worth the money and time.
If we've got you interested in Maxspeed springs, check out the "Group Deals" section for a 3rd round GD!
Bottom line? Great ride, great handling...very pleased with Maxspeed!

I know for a fact, from contorting my body in such a way that I could feel the rear strut tower AND still push down on the rear of the car, that my noise is from the strut stem bolt rubbing against the rubber top hat...but no matter how hard I tighten it, I can't seem to get it to stop!
I'll rip everything apart in a month or two if I can't get it to quiet down before long.

Well...if YOU'RE going to take yours apart, maybe we'll wait to hear from YOU

Dont make me lie, but...
I paid a local speed shop $125 to put these on for me. I did watch him do the whole thing, accept for how to pull the back carpet out.
My ride is noticablly stiffer and I have an SE. I also noticed alot of bounce, but that has smoothed out nicely. To be honest is was definitly easier to pay someone to put the springs on verses me tryin to do it by myself. If I learned anything, it is that I need more tools.
As for handling, Lets just say that I cant find enough curvy roads.
