In Cabin Micronfilter

I was prepared to purchase a new '02 SE tomorrow morning, however going through the links and it's my understanding that the Maxima comes with this "in-cabin micronfilter" which Nissan recommends changing yearly (or every 15K miles). Not only is the cost of the filter high ($44), but to install it appears to be a real PITA. It seems that you literally have to take apart your glove box in order to replace the filter. Does anybody have any experience with replacing this micronfilter? How difficult is it to replace? According to Nissan, if you don't change it as required, your A/C, Heating, etc. will not perform up to standards.
I plan on doing my own oil and regular air filter changes...but this one has thrown me for a loop.
Thanks!

jjs, found the "search" function, thanks.

BTW, I will call the dealership and see if they can remove the microfilter before delivery. It seems to me that 99% of cars on the road to not have this "money getter" for the dealers. I can live with the air that will be pushed through without this silly microfilter. I don't think it should be a problem not to have it installed since it only filters the air that's being sent into the cabin.

Yep, understand your thinking...

had it not already been installed when I bought my AE, I would not have gone out of my way to get it either...

Well, I just called the service manager at the dealership and he said they can easily deliver the car to me without the microfilter and that means I will never have to worry about changing it. Heck, I've been breathing "unfiltered" air in my car for years...it's not going to kill me now. He said that removing the microfilter will not affect the operation of the A/C, heating, ventilation system.

The filter supposedly helps reduce odors too among other things. It really isn't that hard to change though... and I believe you can get the filter cheaper from courtesy or a couple other places than $44.

My old 2k didn't have one, and I added it. You unscrew the glove box, it drops down, and the filter slides right in.... really not much to it at all. yea, it is one more thing to worry about, but I think it took me all of 5 minutes to do.

My 2K1 didn't come with the MicronFilter option. Are you saying that if I want to add one I just need to purchase/install the filter? Or are there additionnal parts that would also have to be installed?

yep! it's cake to install. If I remember right, since you don't have it, I think there's an additional step to remove something.... but it's way easy. I think Courtesy or DaveB has them cheaper than probably your dealer.
