Short Throw Shifter

Hey,

Having combed the retail sites and search-engines looking for a short throw shifter for my 5th gen, I found very few alternatives to Stillen's $258 item..........Only SMC and Pacesetter came up

Courtesy Nissan is said to be an authorized dealer for SMC but they haven't any, and haven't had a shipment in 3 months... So I called SMC only to ge no answer (?)

What I'm asking is; Does anyone have a URL or address where I might purchase a sts for my car somewhere under Stillens price?

any reply would be appreciated

Dave

BTW Is a Pacesetter a rebadged SMC ?

From what I hear, yes, Pacesetter is a re-badged SMC or the other way around- they’re supposedly identical.

You can get a STS for the 4th-gen Max from carparts.com for $65 I think. Supposedly it will fit a 2k-2k1 as well, but I’ve been waiting for someone else to be the guinea pig. So go ahead and try it and report back.

Pacesetter.....

I have been waiting soooo damn long for the smc that I think I am going to just try the pacesetter. It just makes sence that the 95-96 would fit 00-01 5spds. The SMC is supposed to fit 95-01 so why the heck not! I have been calling courtesy about this for the last 3 months and I get the same answer "next week sometime".

Short Throw Shifter

maxman00,

I tried to call the SMC office 3 times today without luck makes me wonder if they are defunct, Randy at Courtesy couldn't spectulate if they would have SMC sts in within the next 3 months.

I emailed the techsupport at Pacesetter to see if the 4th gen application would work for the 2000-01, so far no reply

Funny thing was they didn't show any STS's on their website either
only exhaust and suspension components.

I might swallow hard and get the one at carparts.com, the only thing that concerns me, isn't the cost, but the durability and the effort of installation, it's just as hard to put in a cheap component as a quality one..............but you might get a 2nd chance to do it again with the cheap one.

You won't be sorry if you decide to go with the Stillen Short Throw Shifter, Coldboot-SE. It's very well made.

Steve the owner of SMC is now working for Nismo in product development. He used to buy the shifters from Pacesetter and use his own hardware and instructions and put the SMC name on the box. Pacesetter has just produced a big batch of 50 shifters and shipped them to me. We should have them in stock anyday now. Not sure on price yet but it should be competitive. The fit 1995-2001.

Which Honda STS?

Scary part is, a Honda STS will fit a Maxima as well.

Just curious which Honda specific short shifter is the one to get - Accord, Civic, Prelude? Applicable year(s)? Do you have a brand suggestion? I assume there are a lot more shifters available on the market for Honda's. That should make a good deal pretty easy to get.

Thanks,

That's no fun to give it away...I had to learn the hard way, then again it was a coincidence that I had ordered the PaceSetter STS for a Honda xxxxxxx, and it looked similar to the SMC for a 96 Max.
Nice. Just hope I can return the favor down the road...

GOOD NEWS!!!

Just got 50 sets of the Pacesetter Short Throw Shifters. Price is $68. I did some research and found that carparts.com had the lowest price on it, so i beat it by a few dollars. Sorry I could not go lower....I am making practicaly no profit on it. You guys wanted it and now you got it.
Go to www.CustomMaxima.com to order. Fits 1989-2001 Maximas.

That's a GREAT price for a STS, Greg. Those babies ought to FLY off your shelves. I'd buy one myself if I hadn't already bought a Stillen STS from you.

I had one a Pacesetter sts on my old Escort and that thing rocked. The fact that you can adjust made my shifts short and crisp. Once I got spoiled from that thing it was hard to go back to the long a** stock throw of my Max. Hopefully someone will come out with one for the 2k2..

If I do the install myself then I'll take pics.

BTW, how long does it normally take to get stuff after it's ordered from your site?

Are there any quality differences between the Stillen and the Pacesetter STS?

I'll have to defer to you on this one, yo. I assume you've driven both the Stillen and the Pacesetter. I have only driven the Stillen STS. And mine certainly does not suck although it took some time to break it in. Having said that, I'd go for the Pacesetter if I were you, Mr. Green. You're not going to buy a Stillen STS for $68.00.

Thanks guys, Pacestter sounds the way to go. Now I just need someone I can trust to put it in, since I don't have the proper equipment or expertise to attempt to do it myself. Any suggestions for mechanics within driving distance of the DC-Maryland area?

Stillen does make good quality products, just that the impact it has on your wallet seems to overpower the good quality of their products. In my opinion the Pacesetter is no better then the Stillen STS, they are equal. As all of the Stillen products you are paying for the Stillen name on it.

Greg,

I found the Pacesetter STS for $55 on Nopi.com, and it's the full kit too. JCWhitney is right around the same price.

The thing is, they are all sold out and so I ordered from you. I trust I'll get a good product, I just wanted you to know there are cheaper places..

I talked to Pacesetter about that and they told me that neither one of those companies including carparts.com has them in stock because they never sell any of them. If anyone places an order with them they need to order it from Pacesetter and it takes 2-3 weeks to get it. I bought 200 sets which was the entire inventory Pacesetter had. I will look into getting a better price but not sure if i can.

Thanks for the heads up..and your right none of those places had them in stock...they probubly just listed them to make their inventory look bigger.

You don't have to lower your price, becuase 68 bucks for a product that retails in the hundreds is good enough for any of us.

This is slightly off the topic, but has anyone ever ordered something from importpartsplus? I ordered a STS from them about 6 weeks ago, they debited my account 8 days ago and I have not seen anything. I would rather cancel my order at this point and order the pacesetter from Greg, because it is a much better deal. However, since these people have my $$$$, there is not much I can do. I have sent these guys 4-5 emails concerning the topic! One would think I would get a reply! Right??? This s**t gets me steamed!

6 weeks?? That's a very long time. Look at it this way, they just debited your account 8 days ago so in all likeliness your STS is on it's way. They probably just got it in stock or something. Way too long...

Any Short shifter for 2002?

Is there a short available shifter for the 2002 available yet? Any way off modifying the older one to fit the 2002?

thanks

They probably do not have it in stock like everyone else and just ordered it from Pacesetter. Now you have to wait for Pacesetter to have more in stock and ship to them. It may be a while because I bought every shifter Pacesetter had to get the good price. See if you can cancel your order with them and order from me. I ship all items that are in stock within 24 hours of your order being placed.

Pacesetter is working on a shifter for 2k2.

STS Installed!!

Well I picked up the STS from UPS today, bought a Razo **** and got it installed. I went to a local shop and spent only $50.00 for the install. Question for those who have the sts, after the install, was it really hard to shift? It feels so stiff! I imagine it'll loosed up after the break in period. I really hope so cuz it's mad stiff! I also hear the shifts loud and clear. Is this normal?? The distance of the shift is awesome! It's like night and day. I am no longer a trucker
