Long Drive

I've gotta make a 4.5-5 hour drive up and back between Thurs and Fri. Right now I'm about 60 miles shy of 1000 on the Maxima. Any problem doing a drive of this length with the engine still so new?? Thanks for any advice.

Re: Long Drive

long drive is not very good for break-in your new engine. you want to break in your new engine with various speed and gear.

Well, I finished my drive and added about 500 miles to the odometer. Long stretches at constant speeds were not a big problem. I ran through so many little towns and stoplights that I don't think I had the cruise set for more than 20 minutes straight. Got lost a heck in DC, I must say I now have a much greater respect for the power and handling of this car. Saved my butt a couple of times. But after the trip, she's awful dirty. It's a nice day out, time to wash

Re: Long Drive

Do you have a stick?

If so it's okay.. just be sure to change gears and rpm's every now and then (15 minutes is a good gauge). Stay on 5th... then 6th... zip by with 4th.

As long as you don't keep your rpm's and speed constant for long periods of time you'll be fine.
