5 Speed Swap or shift kit

Ok, I searched for this, but I really didn't come up with anything that said clearly how much hassle this would be...Has anyone done an auto-to-5 speed swap? How much hassle & time was it? As an alternative, where would you get a good shift kit for the 5th gen?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

I would keep it an auto and get a valvebody recalibration and a tranny cooler. I don't have it but from what i hear it's nice on auto max's. I know it would cost a lot less than switching from auto to 5 speed. Check out http://www.mobiletek.net.

VB and Tranny cooler will cost maybe 500-800, 5 speed swap at least 4-5 grand. Rebuild an auto to be hot-2-20 grand.

Do a search on 5 speed conversion...

and you'll find that a few ppl have done it for 1800-3000 dollars but with 4th gens, never seen it done to a 5th gen, not that it wouldn't be very similar anyway.

I chose to just trade in for a 2k2...waiting for loan to be approved etc.. grr.. but anyhow I considered all the options first. Was pretty close to just doing a conversion. But then I factored in the cost, potential problems, it ended up better for me personally to just get a new car. Hey I get a fresh warrantee, another gear, and 33 extra horses, and a color i might actually like..

but different strokes for different folks.. Up to you, one of the guys that did a conversion was nice enough to do a full write up if you are handy with a wrench.

As for building up an auto, you can do a new torque converter and valve body for around $1000 total w/o labor.
