Bent front sway bar replaced--Big difference?!
Hey everyone,
My car is a salvage, and when I bought it the front sway bar was slightly bend on the right side from a collision. I never noticed any steering/handling problems before (and I drive my car to its limits).
However, now that the bent sway bar has been replaced, I feel like the car handles a lot better. For instance, when I take hard 90 degree turns (20-30mph) the car seems to turn sharper and the front wheels seem to stay glued to the ground better. Also, understeer seems reduced and the back tires squeel--meaning that the back end is loosing traction instead of the front end (Which is awesome, because the max is fwd and I hate f*cking understeer). I have Protenza S-03 tires and they never used to squeel like this going around really sharp turns (I would just get quiet, plowing understeer if I hit a turn too hard.
I haven't extensively tested my car yet (got it back today; getting an alignment right now) so I don't know how big of a difference the new sway bar makes yet. What I want to know is: Am I crazy (i.e. should this make a big difference)? From what I described, will my high end handling be improved? Any input is appreciated.
I have been riding on broken bushings and a bent front sway bar ever since I got my Maxima. I now have all new lower control arms and a new front sway bar, so I will be going for a little test drive at about 3am. Can't wait to see what my baby can do!
