Valve Cover Breathers...
I need some advice. I now have an intake and have noticed that the valve cover return is definately a source of "goo" inside the air induction system. I would like to eliminate this as a source of "dirt".
I know that this hose is emissions related (having the hose between the valve cover and the induction).
Now my question. Is there any harm to the motor/gas mileage or anything else if I replace this hose with just a breather filter? I would put the hose back on when testing for emissions but what problems could I have if just replacing it with a filter?
Since the hose is on the intake side, when you apply throttle it pulls more air in and hence pulls more "fumes" from the crankcase. If I am not "pulling" as much fumes out, any problems that could be created.
Any input would be appreciated.

Any unburnt gas will not be recirculated and might decrease fuel efficiency. Also the gas would not be sucked (because of the vaccum) out of the valve cover.
I can't see any negative effects unless you don't make sure to clean the filter when it gets dirty. You do not want to clog up the engine.

There are two paths for the "blow-by gases" to be burned up. One is through the tube your thinking of removing and the other is through the PCV valve into the manifold. The tube your considering removing is NOT necessary. It is MOSTLY used to supply fresh air to help circulate blow-by through the PCV valve, which a K&N filter will also provide. However, it also allows some blow-by to be drawn out into the intake under certain conditions.
Read the section of your ESM on the PCV(Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system. You'll understand more. You just need to decide if it's worth it or not.
