$3000 Mobile Video finally INSTALLED!!!

Well I took my entire Tax refund and used it for mobile video/audio. Contemplated for awhile about getting a supercharger, but i am much happier that I made this decision. I like it alot.
Here are some pictures to show you what I put in.

You dont see all of the parts but I will write out what I got.

http://bigdogjonx.gixxer.com/cgi-bin/i/audio/tv1.jpg
http://bigdogjonx.gixxer.com/cgi-bin/i/audio/tv2.jpg
http://bigdogjonx.gixxer.com/cgi-bin/i/audio/tv3.jpg

Now under the driver's seat I got the main brain unit that controls everything along with a TV tuner. Also in the trunk I installed a 12disc changer.

Now the main headunit is the 7" motorized screen. The unit underneath it is the dvd player. All this took me and my brothers about 5hrs to install.

The face/trim kit for the headunit and dvd player was bought from sounddomain.com. It is a double ISO kit, not a DIN kit (for those of you who know what I am talking about.)

I am getting the TVs in the headrests installed this week from one of the maxima guys out in NYC.

Nice man it's a double DIN not ISO ISO means (I screw on) which means you can take the factory brackets off the stock radio and put the on the aftermarket radio. From sounddomain.com has that one i got to see that.

It is not a Double Din. It is an ISO kit. DIN would mean that I would be able to put in the DIN cage. You CANNOT put in the DIN cage. As you can see there is not a Trim Border kit. ISO means it sits behind the trim/dash kit. DIN means it sits on top. The TV headunit had to be screwed down to the factory brackets. I had to drill new holes along with making sure it was exact. Like within 1/16" of an inch. Otherwise the trim/dash kit would not fit perfect.

and a double DIN is like two cages put together. I am MECP certified I installed stereos for a living. Also I went to that site and saw the kit and I want one.

That looks tight Dixit! BTW, was it hard to install everything with drilling new holes to make everything flush? I've been wanting to do that setup myself, exactly how you did it, but I want everything flush like yours is.

Right right right, my bad. I meant to say TWO single DINs. That is what it is not. I did not mean to sound like you aint know anything. Only problem is if you do use this as a true double din kit, you cannot surface mount it. This trim/dash panel just fits over the top and the acvent holds it from coming loose. It basically is not screwed down or anything.

Lets just say the part of making the radio fit in the factory brackets was not easy. I had to drill new holes. And the holes needed to be exact, otherwise the dash kit would not fit perfectly. I mean so perfect to the point where if it was off 1/16" then DVD player with the fold down face would not open/close perfectly without rubbing.

Once that was done, it was a joke from there cause I been wiring radios since 1994.

Precision power amps Image dynamics IDMAX 12 D4 and slpine type-X componets.

Thank you sir.

I am getting an alarm for it. Which again I am going to do the install. I dont like letting anyone else installing anything on my car.

MyOwnNismo,
Yeah I did the install myself. If you plan on doing it, just make sure you be careful doing the headrest install. It is very tricky and prone to come out wrong. I dont want to see you screwing it up cause it cant be reversed. Let me know if you want more pictures or how it can be done. If you plan on doing the dual ISO trim kit, then get that from Sounddomain.com. Otherwise if you want the regular kit with the DIN opening and a pocket, then you can get that almost anywhere. But in my opinion, I dont like the pocket trim kit, looks very wierd.

Glad you asked, their is this convertor called a PAC convertor that Crutchfield and only Crutchfield sells. It will integrate with your stock volume controls and will allow you to change volume and tracks or whatever your stock controls did. I am going to buy this in a week.

Like I said, It matches the color of the AC vents above it perfectly. The picture may not show it, but it does. Almost cant tell the difference.

Great job Dixit! I want one too! We drove to Atlantic City this Sat. night & I was sitting in the back of my max chillin... and I was bored out of my mind (only a 1-hour trip). I NEED HEADREST MONITORS! Possibly my next upgrade after the Berk intake arrives.

What exactly do you have there? I have the Pioneer 7300 DVD and the Pioneer 9200 detachable face EQ. I also did get a double-din dash kit for it to install both so that other guy is right. You can use a double-din kit. I got it all from Uncle Steve's on Canal St. in NYC and I paid alot less than 3k! Is that Navigation you have under the DVD?

Nice job on the head unit! I can't wait to see photos of the rest of the car.
And, don't worry...your S/C will still be there next tax season!

So, you never said anything about my Maxima Racing Video?

What you mean wanting to see pics of the rest of the car? Click on my homepage.

I dont think I am gonna get a S/C. My tranny is falling apart now. Makes all kinds of ticking, grinding and clanking noises. Just waiting for them to replace it.

You video looked hot. I love the music. What this like a race/slalom style course?

sorry..

I've been trying to follow the stereo forum, but why didnt you use the GXE/vent setup? I was under the impression the pocket could be removed and two dins could be used.

Well I was looking, and I dont think any kit can support the weight of a din cage on top of that two of them.

I actually dont know what this "GXE" vent setup is. I have never seen it. This trim kit is just sits on top, doesnt even screw down. Just held down in place with the AC vents on top keeping it from moving.

from what I understand...

the GXE trim piece (and vent, which unfortunately must be purchased) is like $100-ish. I know it gives a singe din. I dont know if the pocket area gives another din. I'm looking hard at the new Clarion AV units and I'm trying to figure it all out ahead of time. I never gave any thought to the sides :/ doh!

Well let me put it this way timmeh. Even with my trim/dash kit, two single dins would not be able to fit. First off like I told everyone, this is an ISO mount kit. If you wanted to put a DIN cage, then you would have to shave off about 1/8" from each side just to get the DIN cage to fit. Then on top of that you would still need to screw down the radio cause that dash/trim kit cannot hold the wait of the radio.

Now if you went with a normal double din radio, you would still have to screw it down to the factory brackets. And still this dash/trim kit cannot be used for DIN cages. Simply because the opening is not wide enough. ISO mouting is for where you use the factory brakets and this trim/dash kit fits over the top. This is nicer than using the DIN cage method because with that you have to use the Border trim piece on your radio to cover the DIN cage and it looks kinda shady. I like the ISO mount. Makes it look cleaner and better, only problem is that it requires abit more work.

I think the GXEvent kit actually comes with the dash/trim kit along with new Factory brackets also. That is probably why it is $100ish. But as you can see in the pictures, mine looks completely factory in the sense the dash trim matches the ACvent perfectly in color and fits perfect. Cannot be happier in a $10 dash piece.

well...

I didnt say your kit didnt look good. I'm not sure which way I will go... $10 is hard to beat. I thought Maximadave had the GXE kit, but he has changed his car domain site. I want his old head unit!

are you worried about condensation on the back of the LCD? Right now, I use a Ipaq PDA for GPS nav and I have a clip on vent mount. The stand off still keep the back of the holder some distance from the vents, but if the sunroof is open and the AC is kickin, then I tend to build up alot of moisture. I know the AC dehumidifies, it only happens when window is down. but due to the amound of moisture, this has me concerned. doesnt get on the PDA, just the back of the holder.

Are you talking about this BigDog?

How much would installation cost for the 12-disc changer but the unit you have (minus dvd).

And where do you live? Maybe i could pay you

Also... For the foldout nav system (alpine) it says it has a 6-disc changer. is this changer for music or for directions. I want a 12-disc changer, not a 6...

Timmeh,
Not really worried about condensation, I have aimed the vents away from it. So we are cool there, plus the vent is about a good 5inches away. Secondly the back of the LCD is kinda sealed.

Melteye,
That is exactly what I am talking about.

I'm not sure what you mean here? I installed everything myself. If you went to get everything I just did installed outside at a high end audio shop like Tweeter, it would run at least $1000 or more. I live in the DC Metro area.
