Wiring neon into trunk light?

Does anyone know how to wire in a neon to the trunk light. Trunk opens light goes on as well as the wired in neon?

Thanks

Dude, the trunklight uses 5Watts of power. If your Neon light uses that much, or less you should be OK. Make sure you wire your + and - terminals correctly. That's all the advice I have, cause I haven't tried it on my car. Someone here has probably done this & will reply shortly.

Thanks!
Does anyone know the output of the trunk light and what standard neon rods need?

It should be 5watts and 12V.... Any neon rod that used 12v should be good..

Did anyone do the wiring yet? I'm thinking about doing it too

Should be as simple as splicing off the + & - wires going to the bulb. I will be doing this shortly but I will be using CCD's instead of neon's. They are much brighter and smaller than any neon, plus I can use 3-4 on the same juice as 1 neon. I would disconnect the bulb being that a neon should be bright enough and to make sure I don't burn anything up.

What is CCD?
What is the best way to do the splicing?

My guess is that Neon takes more than 5W to operate. If that is the case, you will need to use a relay, and have the switched source to the dome light set it off (for example if a positive charge goes to the light when the trunk opens, that will be the trigger, or else the trunk grounds the circuit when opening that will be the trigger). Look up relays and you can probably figure it out.

I did something different to my 01 Maxima, I bought that neon wire light kit. I tapped into the back light using wire taps, also changing to a blue bulb at the same time. It works great, and also looks great at night. This neon wire light kit is a small neon wire, my was a 6' one, that is designed for around the molding. It also comes with a small transformer that I mounted under the back deck. The only down side is the humming noise the transformer makes when it's on but that's only when the trunk is open. Now when I open my trunk it is lined with a dim blue light around the weatherstripping.

A CCD is a cold cathode. They are 6 or 12 inches long, 1/8th of an inch in diamater, and produce light output levels equal to or greater than a neon of the same length, usually greater. Because they are "cold" and do not heat uip they do not need any kindof protective covering, which makes putting them in different places much easier. The only downside is that they are extreemly fragile, but you only need to worry about that with the 12 inch long ones. I broke 4 12 inchers while installing them in my car. But thats not too bad because i've got a hook up for 5$ each, regardless of size. If you want to see what they look like check out my car's homepage at:http://maxima.cardomain.com/id/robsae Let me know if anyone is interested in these.

Yea, this is kinda outdated, but I used the search to find this thread.. I have a 4th gen by the way. Does anyone know how to tap into the trunk light wire? I took a look at it just now, and I see the bulb(looks like 194) but couldnt find a way to get to the wires.. I'm guessing I would have to take out the back seat, open up the rear speaker hood area, and unscrew this and that,... etc .. Help!
