Are there any objective reasons for getting a certain color for a 2002?

Are there any objective reasons for getting a certain color for a 2002?

Besides the subjective reasons (e.g. which one you like best) what are some objective reasons to buy one color over another? Am I obsessing? Yes, but I am genuinely curious.

Does a certain color hide dirt better than another?

Is one color more prone to chipping than another?

Is resale predicted to be better for a given color over another?

Anything else?

#1 and #3, some colors hide dirt better than others and colors effect resale value. Silver has the best resale value.... its probably also the winner for showing the least amount of dirt. But get what you like... its not a big amount of resale either way. If your curious, NADA gives adjustments based on the color so you can look at the different adjustments. I love Black, but its one of the colors that cause negative adjustments, but worth it, IMHO.

well when it came time for me to buy I bought a white max (even though I looovvveee the black) My reason? Well I live in the South very hot and humid in the summer. It seems to me that the white with the light color interior doesn't "soak" up the sun and heat like the dark colors do. Just seems not to get as hot. I have had a charcoal gray color car and a white car before so when it came time to buy the max that's why I went with the white.

hmmm

sterling mist *seems* to be alittle more chip resistant than blue and black (going by what people have said). SM hides blemishes better, I'm sure thats why I saw 2X more darker cars at the dealer when the paint inspector was there. I'm sure there were just as many messed up glacier and sterling cars, they just didnt notice.

Actually, the light colors probably chip just as much, but you dont notice.

Sadly, the max looks best in Blue/Black, but I wasnt up for the heat, swirls, washing, and near impossibility of matching it if I ever had to paint it. in a perfect world, I would have snagged a black or blue one in a second.

This is my first black car.I love my super black SE, especially when it is clean, but I never had to wash a car so often before. I wasn't aware my insurance rates factored in the color. That sucks.

My opinion

I'm sorry guys, but I don't think Sterling Mist looks as goood on a 5th gen. as it does on a 4th gen. I think it has to do with the shape.
I know this is about objective points. I personally would NEVER buy a sterling mist 5th gen. So if there are enough people like me out there, it could possibly affect the resale value. It seems like I'm not the only one with this opinion.

Question for sunlit sand owners...

Do you notice swirls on your car ? Does it hide dust well?

I think the black looks badass - but if I had to do it over again, I would've gotten a different color. It is a biatch to keep clean, plus chips seem to show up much more prominently than other colors.

One thing to think about especially if you live in the south. BUGS.

Ihave had 4 black cars, one silver, and one white.

Silver (Sterling Mist) is definently the easiest to keep clean.

Black looks the best but once the bugs set in on your front end it looks awful even when it is clean because they put pits in your paint.

White shows bugs the worst when they are on there but once you get them off you really don't notice the pitting as much.

My $.02 worth

I agree 100%. I regret not getting Sterling Mist But Black still looks cool near the shade or at night

Yup, I know bright colors like red and yellow will make your insurance rates be higher. But since the Maximas don't have bright colors, I don't think you have to worry about it.

Besides Sterling Mist, Sunlit Sand hides scratches and chips the best. I'd love to make my next Max a Majestic Blue(looks darn elegant), don't think I want to deal with a dark car in Texas. After all our Julys are 115+ F, when the heat index kicks in.

I had the Merlot on my 01 AE and now have the sterling mist on my 02. I'm far happier with the sterling mist. For starters, it is gorgeous; the car looks like it was chiseled out of stone. The silver with clear lenses, dark tinting...just doesn't get any better. And I love not feeling like I have to wash it every week unless I want to because it really does hide the dirt amazingly well. My merlot, although a great color, was just terrible to keep clean, and when dirty, just looked, well, dirty. My next fav would have to be the blue; now that it is a standard color I've seen more of them and they are just stunning...but it is a dark color..no thanks. White is always classy...matter of fact I just picked up a white Sentra SE-R Spec V for my son and it looks great in white.

Ok, my 2c worth but I just have to close by reiterating that I think the Max design was born to wear sterling mist...

Speaking of Sterling Mist, even commercials for Maxes have nothing but that color car. Same thing with print ads. That should give you an idea.

I got gray lustre because it seemed to go the best with the rear of the car (?). Also alot of people have black cars, I wanted something dark but a little bit different.

I also have the grey lustre, and when the car is clean in direct sun, or under shop lights, the paint shows a metallic shimmer.. Almost as if it has metal flake, and that is why I picked the color, it is fairly hard to keep clean, but diffently worth it.. Plus it goes great with the Frost colored interior

I definatly wanted the stirling mist. I live in Florida and it's too hot for a dark car. Plus I'm lazy, and although I'll be cleaning the heck out of it at first I know I'll slack off later.

Dark colors show dirt worse than light colors.

Light colors are cooler in summer.

Any color that does not use a clear coat is an easier finish to maintain. "Regular" finishes, even those heavily oxidized, can be readily (if not easily) restored to like-new lustre with a compound / polish / wax process. Don't know if Maxima's have any non-metallic or non-pearl finishes, though, so it is best to keep a Max washed, waxed and out of the sun!

Resale values can be affected depending on zip code. Dark color cars in my zip code (a high desert) typically have lower resale value unless it's a "beater". Dealer lots around here at end of model season almost always are heavy on dark colors; you can get a good deal, but expect resale to suffer.

I have a black max and it hurts me when I'm cleaning and see all little chips on the front. Not that other colors would prevent this but certainly hide them better. I liked the white for the 2002 when I was at the dealer. Looking at Kloogy's car confirmed my opinion...awesome.

I have to agree. I had a 99 Black SE and it looks awesome when clean. It does get hot in the summer, and shows more chips.
I now have a 6 speed Majestic Blue and it looks nice. It does gets dirty often however, and doesn't shine as well as black.

With the 2002, I do like the white but didn't want light interior.
I didn't like the black and clear tails combo. I find the Grey Lustre nice looking with the clear tails. Sterling Mist is nice under certain lighting. Like EMAX's phone where it looks almost silver, very nice.
