Stillen RSB Owners !!!!!!!!!!???????

Ok, I just bought a RSB from a member and he claims that the Stillen RSB is the same for 95-2001. However, when doing the install I noticed that the offset for the sway bar is not enough and the rear axle is resting on the the sway bar. Is this normal? Also, the RSB is making a knocking sound from that center part of the rear suspension hitting it. Is this normal? Needless to say I removed the sway bar because we were already maxed out in the adjustments for the bar so there is no way I could move it forward. On top of that the sleeves for the RSB don't fit in the two front brackets because of the frame not allowing it. I followed the instructions from paul and I am thinking that even though Stillen's web page says 95-2001 RSB, this is not the case. Help! Any input welcomed

1.rear axle sitting on the bar
-Nope, it is not supposed to sit on the bar. u prob should flip the bar up side down. I remembered it should be pointing down.

2.knocking soud
-make sure all screw are snugged and tight. It was makig sound on mine initially during hard corner. but I snugged all screws and now it is fine. It can be from the wrong pisition of the RSB. If the rear beam is sitting on the bar, than it is possible that the beam contacts the bar during cornering

I followed the Paul's direction from the DIY sticky and it works for me. This RSB works on many cars besides our maxima, i.e. 240sx.

1. Cannot be upside down sticker is facing right side up!

2. It knocks on any bump even going straight, everything tight, nothing lose.

Ok you know how Pauls instructions say that there is suppose to be 5 holes in the RSB there is only four! WTF. Plus you know how paul says to put in between the two screws, impossible without the extra hole. Did your sleeves fit in?

Re: Re: Re: Stillen RSB Owners !!!!!!!!!!???????

hmmm.....I knew mine had a 3-inch gap between the axle and RSB, at least. It has to be pointing down, otherwise, it will contact the rear beam. The reason that it is knocking on every bump is b/c the axle moves when ur wheels hit a bump. Then the RSB right beneath the axle was tapping it.
My RSB looks exactly the same as the one that Paul used to install. When u say to "put in between the two screws", what do u mean by that?

Sorry a little bit of hawaii slang got mixed in. You know his instructions say that the brackets need to be placed in between the two screws see the link to gregs page.

I see....mine fits without any problem and the brackets are between those two screws...the only concern is, how come u only have 4 holes on the bar.

Because! the 2000+ model RSB has FIVE holes, while the 99 and before sway bar has only 4.

check out www.greghome.com

and follow his instructions for fitting a 4th gen sway bar on a 5th gen!

I think it requires some creative bracket placing.

I just installed mine, it took a while to get it right, but no knocking.

Yes but the fact that I bought it for 235 shipped, thinking it was a perfect fit 5th gen RSB. Now I am ****ed.... thanks chinkzilla for the information. So I was right it is not the RSB for my car!

I had the same problem (The knocking sound) when I installed my stillen rsb on my 5th gen. The problem is that the sway bar has been put on too far back.

The key, I found in properly installing the sway bar, and the way to determine the proper positioning of the blue brackets on the trailer arms is to FIRST position the sway bar so that its DIRECTLY UNDER THE MULTILINK SUSPENSION BEAM. ONLY THEN, can you determine where to place the brackets. My sway bar, on the first install was not directly underneath the multi-link beam, it actually was about an inch BEHIND the multilink beam (closer to the trunk) and so EVERYTIME I drove it would clank against a non-moving part of the suspension. It actually ended up scratching both my brand new stillen decal and the sway bar itself (bummer).

I realigned the sway bar directly underneath and BAM the best mod for the car.

NOW: What about those damn bolts! The ONLY reason I misaligned the sway bar was because I tried to fit the blue brackets between the bolts. Since, like on your 2000 car, it did not fit, I tried to place them elsewhere and thus the mis aligned sway bar.

IMO, YOU MUST REMOVE THE TWO BOLTS! (in fact Stillen's instructions recommend the same) These two bolts are holding some metal stip that holds the brake line or abs line in place. Dont worry, you can run the line between the brackets; they don't get pinched. Just clamp the blue brackets together with the brake line in between. They hold them in place.

If your really paranoid, zip tie any loose wires.

Good Luck.

Man, I went throught the same thing, sheesh was that a bish to install with only four holes. Basically i had to drill another hole on each side. It worked put pretty well. During my trial and error install, on one occassion i had the same knocking noise, I later found out that even though i tighten the bolts, some how they became lose so i tighten them up and no more clunking.
