How would a Corvette do against a SC'ed 00-01 Max @ 9 (cooled) psi's?
How would a Corvette do against a SC'ed 00-01 Max @ 9 (cooled) psi's?
Not sure what year... The body style looks like the newest one, but the exhaust tips are on the outer end of the car, left and right side, rather than under the license plate.
Could someone be so kind as to post hp/torque, 0-60, and 1/4 mile times? Thanks.

From what I can see, he had an exhaust and some dark colored wheels with some pretty large rear tires.

2001 C5 350hp, 0-60 = 4.8s, 1/4-mile = 13.1s@109.1mph
2001 ZO6 385hp, 0-60 = 4.4s, 1/4-mile = 12.6s@114.0mph
Road&Track(Always high!):
97 C5 345hp, 0-60 = 4.8s, 0-100 = 11.5s, 1/4-mile = 13.3s@108.0mph
00 ZO6 385hp, 0-60 = 4.6s, 0-100 = 10.5s, 1/4-mile = 13.0s@110.5mph
I've seen a ZO6(385hp) at the track and the guy was getting beat by turbo rice burners. He could NOT hook up till near half track. He was running HIGH 13's to low 14's, but he clearly could NOT drive. If it's the NEWEST ZO6(405hp/400tq) you don't have a prayer.
Most people can NOT get the maximum potential out of these cars and end up running high 4s to low 5s 0-60 and mid 13s to low 14s 1/4. I've heard a 4.07s 0-60 and 11's 1/4-mile with slicks STOCK. If you got a good(read cool headed, light foot) driver in a STOCK C5(335-350hp) you will probably get beat. Chevys are known for putting to the wheels hp/tq numbers close to flywheel.
Even if you both put down the same hp/tq to the wheels, he's still going to have the RWD launch advantage. Try and get him on a roll and see what happens. I don't think you have a chance from a stop, but I would like to see you win.
I have no idea about the maxima, but here are some times from C5s from what I've seen:
C5 6-speed manuel:
Typical time: 13.0
Fastest Mag time: 12.9 (popular mechanics), although Kenny Smith ran a 12.68 powershifting for one mag. Some Corvetteforum members in 12s stock
C5 Auto:
Typical 13.2-13.4 depending on what rear end is in the car 3.08/2.73
Fastest Mag time: 13.29 (motor trend, an auto convertable) Some Corvetteforum members in high 12s stock.
The only other thing is that a lot of C5s have aftermarket air filters, good for .2, or COIs good for .4.... so you see many with just a Cold Air Intake (like the Vortex Rammer I have) running in the 12.6-12.7 area.

I did get a chance to tangle with one this morning on the freeway. He tried to do a ricer flyby from about 3 cars back (went WOT before I did). After we tangled, he went all the way to the right lane and floored it through traffic (I did not follow)... and man was that thing fast. The only other time I've seen a car take off like that is when I was watching a NSX accelerate after paying for toll.

I think it may have been a auto. Are they like mustangs, where they have lots of lowend, but on top they are not so great. Don't get me wrong the C5 is a great car, but I want to know are they as strong on the top end as lowend?

Similar engine about 30 less hp. It was friggen gone. I respect ANYTHING that can pull away like your standing still at 115mph.

By the stats and description, sounds like I ran into a C5 auto this morning. He must've been surprised...
Sorry Kev, all C5's have exhaust coming from under the licence plate (Even the Z06) Unless this was a custom job, you most likely ran a 90-96 Vette. Unless its a ZR1, I think you should definately go for it.

Get to the TRACK!
I think the C5 is strong throughout its rev range. I don't think it will rev to 6500 like the Max, but it doesn't have to.
As far as it being strong on the top end, do you mean the top end of its rev range or from 80mph+??
I don't see why it would be fast from 0-60 and not from 60-170 or whatever its top speed is. It has 6 gears, you are using the same engine rev range regardless of what speed you are traveling. That car puts out over 300 ft/lbs to the wheels for the better part of its rpm range. At whatever speed it is traveling, it will out accelerate any max as long as the driver chooses the right gear.

OMG, 4 door family sedan keeping up!!!
I raced a Vette once...gave him the headstart off the line (didn't think he would actually race) and I gunned it after he did. I gunned it when he was about a half-whole car ahead of me, and I caught to his rear bumper.
I could have beat him, but he got the headstart, and there were twisties ahead! DAMN that thing handled amazingly...
So you see...vettes are no sweat in a straight line

Sorry Kev if your sig is accurate with 283hp you probably will lose.
Most of the older Corvetts are at least 300 hp and the new ones are 350 to 405. They generate huge torque and weigh about the same as our Max. They have positraction and launch like a rocket with lots of tire on rear 275/40/18 stock and top speed of 170+ mph.
Cheers,
Bruce
I think you would get beat by a LS1 Vette. Whoever said that LS1's die up top is totally wrong. They breat well all the way up to redline.
Craig Mack....Were you racing a 80's Vette?? No way you would hang with a C5 or mid 90s vette.

It was a late 80's - early 90's vette
I wouldn't say LS1's have "tons" of top-end, but they're much better than the older LT1's. Besides, top end isn't a Vette's forte, unless it's a Z06... There's no way a Max can hang with a Z06 unless it's putting out more than 350hp at the wheels since that's what a bone-stock Z06 is rated at, at the wheels. Newer ones supposedly have about 15 more hp than the 2k2 Z06's. Whenever I get my Datsun back from the shop, I'll run this fella with a Z06, from a dead dig and a roll so we'll see what kind of top-end the LS6 can muster up...

Is there anyway that Kev can increase this torque? What about getting a level 10 tranny. Would that help him? Anything besides NOS? Sorry if this is a stupid question just trying to learn new things.

Basically matched his speed before we had to let off because a Civic couldn't decide to stay in his lane or go into my lane.

Forgot to mention this: I'm running a 3" SC pulley now and an even smaller one should be at my door steps by the end of today. Yes, I'm breaking into the 2" barrier.

I'm not sure how much hp the 3" pulley (vs. 3.125 at 288 whp), but I should be very close to 300 whp.

Most all Fbodies and Vettes with LS1s dyno over 300hp to the wheels.
