Is there a noticeable difference between this and stock? Also would this mod be recommended or should I save for a Frankencar? Thanks for the answers. I am new to all this.

I love my BERK intake and really, there is no reason not to have it! Not too loud not too quiet. Frankencar's advantage is a larger filter (debatable) and it has the mid-pipe which IS an improvement. I would go BERK for $59.00 to your door!!!!!!

If I wasn't so busy I'd get my midpipe protypes produced for you all. I need to get off my rear.

The intake is a great deal took me about 2 hours to install. It would have taken about 30 if I would have got the nuts that come with it. I then would not have had to use the nuts that hold down the battery tie downs.

I will be the first to buy your mid-pipe if it is a good piece for less than Franken. I want an all BERK intake! Let us know!

Does it come with GOOD instructions? I don't really trust myself to install things like this and I will probably take it to one of my friends that does this kind of stuff all the time and pay him to install it.

Took me 15 minutes to install..it all just common sense... If you are not into mechanics, then it might take about 45 minutes

Yeah what kind of HP increases are we talking with a Berk Intake? Is it the same as the Stillen or JWT POP Chargers? Because Frankencar is saying they get around +8HP for their whole setup, but I haven't seen any proof of performance results from Berk at all. I know the sound is cool, but I would also like some performance as well.

Hey Coby Moby,

When your midpipe is finished, will it have a hole for the Temperature sensor to plug into instead of attaching it near the filter? I am almost sold on purchasing the Berk, but would like the cleaner install of the Frankencar. Do you have a price in mind for the midpipe? What will it be made from?

Thanks

I am in the market for the intake too.
I remember that some people were thinking of testing bother Berk and FrankenCar intake and seeing if the FrankenCar gave more power.

FrankenCar gave about 10hp on 2002 Maxima. I think this is pretty nice gain.

I am still debating which one to get. Berk intake sounds like a great deal, but FrankenCar intake seems to be giving good power gains..

Anybody dynoed Berk Intake on 2002 Maxima?

Thanks.

sup guys...the franken midpipe kicks ***....

Berk intake is basically the same as the JWT.....but with the addition
of frankencar's midpipe you will see a huge difference.

I know there are no dyno's to prove this but I race on this 1/2 mile strip with my friends all the time and we have a large orange cone set up at approximately a quarter mile down the road.

When I had the JWT intake only I used to hit that cone at 90 - 91 mph consistently. After the addition of the Franken Midpipe I now hit
the cone CONSISTENTLY at 94-95 mph.

Trust me guys.....I'm not trying to push the Franken Intake or anything...just letting you guys know the kinds of gains I got from
the simple addition of the Franken Intake's midpipe. I know it's not a dyno but the gains are real and very obvious. You will notice them right away. It's got a hole to for the air temp sensor and the metal midpipe looks cool too. You guys should hear my intake hiss when I first start the car. And at WOT the car is literally roaring.

I bought the midpipe for $65 shipped.....kind of expensive but
after feeling the gains it was totally worth it. If you guys get the Berk intake you can couple it with Frankencar's midpipe and you will be very very happy.
I've got the JWT/Franken Midpipe combo and I love it.

Do you have a pic of just the midpipe? $65 seems steep for that. What is it made of?

If there are no problems using a Berk Intake w/ a Frankencar Midpipe, than that's what i'm thinking about doing. Because a lot of people praise the Berk Intake for it's great sounds, while tons of others praise Frankencar for other similar, and different reasons. I think that a mix of both worlds would be good a decent solution. I'm probably going to get a Berk sometime next week because this is a great deal.

hey dood, what is a midpipe exactly?

what does it do?

is it something im adding to the car?

or simply exchanging (taking out the stock and putting in the aftermarket newer and better one?) it?

hm, its too bad i dont know much about cars.

berk's intake is very nice. it's incredibly simple entailing just the filter and an adapter plus a brace. the franken intake doesn't have the brace but does include the midpipe as stated.
performance-wise, i honestly can't imagine a significant difference between different brands of pop intakes.
i'm very happy with my berk intake and i'm now addicted to that sucking sound. it's not too obvious or obnoxious just niiiice.
i'd be interested in a midpipe as well and will certainly be purchasing one to go with my intake but i'm not sure if 65 is an amount i'd pay for it. i know irvine78 has a midpipe that he bought from premier auto and it's anodized red so it matches the filter. i don't know the price tho. it seems to just bolt right in place with the maf.

this has mostly all been discussed before but it helps to reiterate the info.

cheers

What kind of metal do you guys want for the midpipe? I'm gauging to see which one your guys prefer so post up your preferences here.

1. Polished 6061 Aluminum - very nice looking
2. Polished 304 Stainless steel - should be a little cheaper

What's the difference in price? I'm really not looking to spend a whole lot more just for the look. I'm pretty sure that the polished ss looks decent right? If it does then I say make this cost efficient and go with the polished ss.

who else wants to comment? The polished aluminum looks almost chrome while polished SS is not as "bright".

The "mid pipe" that everybody is referring to is just a piece of stainless steel tubing which replaces the crap between the throttle-body and the MAF adapter. The Berk & Stillen intakes requires that you remove the airbox and attach their MAF adapter and filter element...that's it (plus or minus a velocity stack). Behind the MAF is this six inch by two inch "thingy" with a springy rubber tube behind it and three small rubber vacuum tubes attaches to it. That is an air resonator box intended to reduce the sound of the air-flow into the throttle body (throttle body is the first steel "thingy" you get to where the intake attaches to the engine itself). If you buy the Franken intake, they provide you a "mid pipe" which replaces this air resonator which is why the Franken intake makes a bit more noise.

Replacing the air resonator with a straight pipe (mid pipe) is a bolt-on replacement.

Below is a picture of the Stillen intake (brightness and contrast adjusted to make it as clear as possible). I have drawn a line around the air resonator box:

In the below picture, you see the Franken intake and a red line around the "mid pipe" which replaces the air resonator. One of these pictures is from a 2K1 and one from 2K2, but if you look at your own car, you'll get the idea:

In both pictures, the MAF is the black plastic item between the filter and either the mid pipe or the air resonator.

Oh yeah...

In my case, I have the mid-pipe tubing from Frankencar (in powdercoated blue), the Berk Tuning MAF adapter in stainless steel, and a K&N filter (no velocity stack).

Re: Re: Berk Tuning Intake Sale extended.......

The Berk is good. A nice sound to it. It took about 20 min to install, but there was nothing to support the thing (it was sagging) so I had make my own steel bracket. (this should be mentioned in the instructions). A great deal! I bought mine from Cobymoby on ebay. It got to me (ohio) in like 4 days.
